Product Description
Skipping Stones Peplum is named after the pattern a skipping stone creates. When I was younger there was a creek in my backyard that I loved challenging myself to skip stones across, which I was never successful at! The body includes some shaping around the waist and thick spaghetti straps including a scoop neck front and back with a flirty skirt! It is perfect for the beginner maker as you will only use slip stitches and single crochets. The panels are worked flat and then seamed together.
Skipping Stones Peplum by B.Audi Designs
Project Overview
The Skipping Stones Peplum is a beginner-level crochet top designed by B.Audi Designs that combines a fitted upper body with a flirty peplum skirt. This downloadable crochet pattern creates a feminine garment available in five sizes ranging from Small (32" bust) to XXL (48" bust), with finished lengths varying from 21.5" to 23.5" from shoulder seam to hem.
Construction Method
The Skipping Stones Peplum is constructed using a three-part assembly method. The garment begins with a front panel worked flat, followed by a back panel worked flat, which is then seamed together. Once the main body is complete, the peplum skirt portion is worked in the round and connected to the top at the waistline. This modular construction approach makes the pattern accessible for beginners while creating a polished, finished garment.
Crochet Stitches and Techniques
- Single Crochet (SC): The primary stitch used throughout the pattern, creating a dense, structured fabric
- Single Crochet Back Loop Only (SCBLO): Used in alternating rows to create textural variation and definition in the fabric
- Chain Stitches (Ch): Used for foundational chains and stitch construction; note that chain 1 does not count as a stitch in this pattern
- Flat Panel Construction: Front and back panels are worked separately in rows before being seamed
- Circular Construction: The peplum skirt is worked in the round for seamless integration with the fitted top

- Size Medium (M): 36" bust circumference, 22" shoulder seam to hem, 6 ⅗" armhole laid flat

Pattern Construction Notes
The back panel is designed to be 6 rows longer than the front panel, creating the distinctive peplum silhouette when the pieces are seamed together. When working rows in the back loop only, the first and last stitches receive special attention to maintain consistent edges. The pattern uses standard crochet abbreviations and is written with size variations indicated in parentheses throughout, allowing crafters to easily follow their chosen size.
Skill Level and Accessibility
Rated as a beginner-level project, the Skipping Stones Peplum uses fundamental crochet stitches and straightforward construction techniques. The combination of single crochet and single crochet back loop only creates visual interest without requiring advanced stitch knowledge, making this an ideal pattern for crocheters building their foundational skills while creating a wearable, fashionable garment.
