This lace scarf pattern is very basic stitch-wise. It only uses chains, double crochet, and single crochet. When I first designed this scarf I wanted a piece that would look pretty, but be very easy to crochet, especially since I was a beginner at lace myself at the time, and I think this fits the bill. The row is repeated as many times as you want, to make this lace scarf as wide or narrow as you’d like.

The Simply Lace Scarf is a beginner-friendly crochet accessory designed to create an elegant, lacy drape. This downloadable PDF pattern from independent designer Kirsten Holloway produces a finished scarf measuring approximately 5 inches wide by 60 inches long before blocking, expanding to roughly 6 inches wide by 80 inches long after blocking, with an additional 12 inches of fringe. The lightweight construction makes it suitable for layering or wearing as a delicate neck accessory.
The Simply Lace Scarf employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginners. The pattern utilizes a shell stitch as its primary decorative element, which involves working 4 double crochet stitches into the same stitch to create textured, fan-like formations. The combination of basic stitch work with the shell stitch technique creates the lace effect that defines this design. Blocking is recommended to enhance the final appearance and dimensions of the finished piece.
This pattern calls for thread-weight yarn, specifically approximately 300 yards of Patons Grace in Blush (as pictured in the pattern), or Red Heart Fashion #3 Crochet Thread in any color of your choice. A 3.25mm (D) crochet hook is required, or an appropriate hook size to obtain the desired measurements. Additional materials include a yarn needle for weaving in ends and scissors. Gauge is noted as not especially important for this piece, making it forgiving for beginners.
Rated as Beginner/Easy, the Simply Lace Scarf is an accessible project for those new to crochet. The straightforward stitch combinations and forgiving nature of the design make it an ideal first lace project.
