Product Description
This is the 9th in my personal design challenge of 2014 - ‘scarf a month’. For September I decided to choose a lariat style. Made in pure silk with lovely sparkly beads, it can brighten up you outfit any day of the year. Long enough to drape like a necklace, or wrap around your neck like a neckwarmer. And it is also narrow enough to use as a belt. The lariat has 8 beads (approx 1cm across), but you may choose as many as you like. Around the beads the width is approx. 5cm (2”), and this narrows to approx. 2.5cm (1”). The total length is approx. 180cm (72”). The pattern is written in English and US terms, is charted and has a few photos to help you. Thank you to [loulouloop] (person) for testing and making a beautiful belt :-)
September Crochet Lariat Scarf by Agrarian Artisan
What Is Being Made
The September Crochet Lariat Scarf is a versatile crocheted accessory designed by Agrarian Artisan as part of their personal "scarf a month" design challenge for 2014. This lariat-style scarf is long enough to drape elegantly like a necklace or wrap around the neck as a cozy neckwarmer. The narrow construction also makes it suitable for use as a decorative belt. The finished piece features decorative beads integrated into the design, with the pattern including 8 beads as standard, though crafters may customize the number of beads according to personal preference.
Techniques Used
This intermediate-level crochet project employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. The pattern uses basic chain stitches as the foundation and builds the structure through repeated rows of crochet stitches. Beads are incorporated into the design during the crocheting process, adding both visual interest and textural dimension to the finished scarf. The lariat construction allows for flexible draping and wrapping, making it a multi-functional accessory piece.
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch) — Used to create the foundation and base structure of the scarf
- Single Crochet (sc) — Listed in the pattern abbreviations for stitch construction
- Double Crochet (dc) — A primary stitch used throughout the pattern for building height and texture
- Treble (tr) — Included in the stitch abbreviations for additional stitch variety
Materials and Gauge
The September Crochet Lariat Scarf is designed to be made in pure silk, a luxurious natural fiber that drapes beautifully and provides an elegant finish. The pattern incorporates sparkly beads that embellish the design and catch the light, adding visual sparkle to any outfit. The recommended gauge is approximately 10 double crochet stitches to 5 centimeters (2 inches), though the pattern notes that tension is not critically important for this particular design. The finished scarf measures approximately 5 centimeters (2 inches) in width around the beaded sections and narrows to approximately 2.5 centimeters in other areas, creating a tapered, elegant silhouette.
