Product Description
Red pandas (Ailurus fulgens) are very skillful and acrobatic animals that predominantly stay in trees, they are classified as an endangered species by the WWF, with less than 10,000 individuals. Ruby the Red Panda was designed in collaboration with Louie from Club Crochet in celebration of Earth Day 2021.
The pattern is written in U.S. terminology and contains step-by-step pictures. The main part of this project is worked in rounds so you might want to use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round. There is no specific gauge for this project, just try to keep it tight and even throughout each piece. All pieces are made in Scheepjes Cahlista yarn, but any similar Aran weight yarn will work. This project is worked with a 3.5mm crochet hook and uses 8mm safety eyes. If you use a different yarn fiber you might need to adapt the size of the safety eyes.
Ruby the Red Panda Crochet Toy Pattern
What You'll Create
Ruby the Red Panda is a charming crocheted stuffed toy designed by Andreia Ferreira from Lemon Yarn Creations. This amigurumi-style project brings to life an adorable red panda character perfect for children or as a handmade gift. The finished toy features the distinctive characteristics of a red panda, including its signature coloring and proportions.
Craft and Technique
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method, making it an accessible choice for crafters of all skill levels. The pattern is rated as beginner-friendly, meaning it employs fundamental crochet techniques without requiring advanced skills. The toy is worked using the amigurumi technique, which involves creating three-dimensional stuffed pieces by crocheting in continuous rounds and shaping through strategic increases and decreases.
Stitches and Construction
While the specific stitch details are covered comprehensively within the pattern itself, Ruby the Red Panda utilizes standard crochet stitches commonly found in beginner amigurumi projects. The construction typically involves working individual body parts—such as the head, body, limbs, and tail—separately before assembling them together. This modular approach allows crafters to manage each component at a manageable scale.

- Stuffing: Fiberfill or polyester toy stuffing for filling the completed pieces
- Additional Notions: Yarn needle for weaving in ends and assembling pieces; safety eyes or embroidery thread for facial features
