Product Description

Rock Star Coat is worked seamlessly in rounds from the top down. First some short rows are worked back and forth to shape the neck. Raglan increases are then worked to the final yoke depth.

The yoke is divided for body and sleeves (stitches for sleeves are placed on hold), and from this point the lower body is worked in rounds to the lower ribbing. Sleeve stitches are picked up again to work the sleeves in rounds down to the cuffs (the sleeves are designed for ¾ length, and have no decreases). A bigger ease is recommended for sleeves due to the fluffy yarn. Then a collar is worked along neck opening.

Sizes XS (S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X)

Finished bust circumference: 44.5 (46.5: 48.5: 51.5: 53.5: 56.5: 58.5: 62.5)” 111 (116: 121: 128.5: 133.5: 141: 146: 156) cm

Suggested ease: 12-16” (30-40 cm) for the body and 2.5-3.5” (6-9 cm) for the upper arm. A bigger ease for the sleeves is suggested.

Rock Star Coat by Lilla Björn Crochet

What Is Being Made

The Rock Star Coat is a seamless, top-down cardigan knitting pattern designed by independent designer Lilla Björn Crochet. This garment is worked in the round from the yoke downward, creating a sophisticated and modern cardigan suitable for intermediate knitters. The pattern includes eight size options ranging from XS to 4X, with finished bust circumferences from 44.5 inches (111 cm) to 62.5 inches (156 cm), making it an inclusive design for various body types.

Knitting Techniques Used

The Rock Star Coat employs several advanced knitting techniques that contribute to its professional finish and flattering fit. The garment begins with short rows worked back and forth to shape the neckline before transitioning to circular knitting. Raglan increases are then worked to create the yoke depth, a classic shaping method that provides a comfortable fit through the shoulders and upper body. The pattern uses seamless, in-the-round construction, which eliminates the need for seaming and creates a continuous fabric. The yoke is divided at a specific point, with stitches for the sleeves placed on hold while the lower body continues to be worked in rounds, allowing for independent shaping of the body and sleeves.

Stitches and Stitch Details

While the PDF content provided focuses on the overall construction method, the pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches appropriate for super-chunky yarn. The use of stitch markers in three different colors is recommended to track different sections of the pattern—typically used to mark raglan lines and pattern repeats. A yarn needle is required for weaving in yarn tails at the conclusion of the project.

Materials and Yarn Weight

The Rock Star Coat is designed for super-chunky weight yarn, specifically Scheepjes Furry Tales. Yardage requirements vary by size, ranging from 6 balls for the smallest size (XS) to 12 balls for the largest size (4X). This yarn choice creates a quick-knitting, textured fabric with excellent drape and visual impact. Two sizes of circular needles are required: US 11 (8mm) needles in 16-inch (40cm) length for the yoke, and US 10.5 (7mm) needles in 32-inch (80cm) length for working the body in rounds. The gauge and needle size combination ensures proper fabric density and stitch definition with the selected yarn.

Sizing and Fit

The pattern offers comprehensive sizing with suggested ease of 12–16 inches (30–40 cm) for the body and 2.5–3.5 inches (6–9 cm) for the upper arm. A larger ease is recommended for the sleeves to accommodate comfortable movement and layering. This guidance helps knitters select the appropriate size based on their preferred fit and intended wear.

Difficulty Level

Rated as an intermediate pattern, the Rock Star Coat requires knitters to be comfortable with circular needle techniques, increases, and shaping. The combination of short rows, raglan shaping, and seamless construction makes this an excellent project for knitters looking to expand their skills beyond basic garment construction while still remaining achievable for those with solid foundational knowledge.
