Product Description
I designed the Robina Bonnet originally back in August 2019, Inspired by all the creative makes I seen based on granny squares for granny square day. Finally in August 2020 I have tweek, re designed and have written this pattern in celebration of granny square day 2020.
The name of the pattern is in honour of the history of crochet in my family. My father has fond memories of a grandmother figure in his life. He remembers her sat by the fire and said she always had a hook and yarn in hand. Her name was Robina.
This is a confident beginner level pattern using the basic crochet stitches and can be made with no more 50g of aran weight yarn.
Its also a great project for using left over yarn from your stash.
The pattern has details on how you can adapt to get the best fit.
Robina Bonnet by Crafty Little Cottontail
What Is Being Made
The Robina Bonnet is a crocheted baby bonnet designed in three size options: newborn, 3-6 months, and 6-12 months. This is a classic bonnet style suitable for infants, featuring a structured crown and brim that frames the face while providing coverage and warmth.
Craft and Techniques
This pattern uses the crochet technique throughout. The Robina Bonnet is classified as a confident beginner level project, making it accessible to crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work on a complete wearable garment. The pattern is written using US crochet terms, ensuring clarity for American crocheters.
Stitches Used
While the specific stitch sequence is not detailed in the provided content, the pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for beginner-level construction. The bonnet structure combines shaping techniques typical of fitted baby garments.
Materials
The Robina Bonnet is constructed using Aran (worsted) weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that works up quickly and provides good structure for a bonnet shape. The designer suggests Stylecraft Special Aran and Paintbox Simply Aran as suitable yarn options with color palettes that complement the design.
Recommended color combinations include:
- Newborn size: Stylecraft Special Aran in Pistachio, Meadow, and Cream
- 3-6 months size: Stylecraft Special Aran in Pale Rose and Cream with Paintbox Simply Aran in Dusty Lilac
- 6-12 months size: Additional colorway options available
A standard crochet hook appropriate for worsted weight yarn is required to complete this project. The pattern format is a downloadable PDF provided by independent designer Crafty Little Cottontail.
