If you want to use regular worsted weight you will get a slightly larger cowl, which you may like!
Stitches: Knit (k), Purl (p) Knit decrease (k2tog), Knit in the front & back of the stitch(K-f/b)- see my Youtube video if you have never done this increase
Finished size: 8 inches wide and 8.5 inches tall unstretched. A second size was added!
