Product Description

I am obsessed with Lion Brand Mandala yarn. I could probably make about 300 of these scarfs/shawls if I had the yarn for it. This pattern creates a soft, squishy, cozy scarf. I added tassels to one and fell in love with that too. I was still learning on how to write out patterns, so if you have any questions, feel free to comment and I will do my best to clear things up.

Renee Triangle Shawl Crochet Pattern

Project Overview

The Renee Triangle Shawl is a beginner-friendly crochet design created by Samantha Bartley of Creating In The Mitten. This downloadable PDF pattern produces a triangular shawl using a classic shell stitch construction, making it an ideal project for crocheters new to shawl-making techniques.

What Is Being Made

A triangle-shaped shawl featuring an expanding geometric design that begins from a small circular foundation and grows outward in rows. The triangular silhouette creates a versatile wrap suitable for layering or wearing as a lightweight shoulder covering.

Crochet Techniques Used

This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginners. The shawl construction starts with a foundation ring created from a chain and slip stitch, then builds upward through successive rows. The design utilizes strategic stitch placement and spacing to create the expanding triangle shape, with increases worked at specific intervals to achieve the geometric growth pattern.

Stitches Used

  • Chain (Ch) – The foundation stitch used to create the initial base and spacing throughout the pattern
  • Slip Stitch (Slst) – Used to join chains into a ring and connect rounds
  • Double Crochet (DC) – The primary stitch forming the body of the shawl
  • Shell Stitch – A decorative motif consisting of 3 double crochets worked together, creating textured shells that form the visual pattern of the shawl

Materials Required

This pattern calls for one skein of worsted-weight yarn, specifically Lion Brand Mandala or Caron Cakes yarn, making it an economical project requiring minimal yardage. A size 6 mm crochet hook is used to work the yarn. Additional notions include a blunt tapestry needle with a larger eye for weaving in yarn ends and scissors for finishing.

Yarn Weight and Hook Size

The pattern uses DK weight yarn paired with a size 6 mm hook, creating a fabric with good drape and definition for the shell stitch details. This combination produces a lightweight, airy shawl suitable for various seasons and occasions.
