Reflective Winter Hat

This hat is made with Red Heart Reflective Yarn. If you’ve seen reflective safety clothing that glows in headlights at night, then you’ll have an idea of what this yarn does. It gets its reflective quality from a gray filament that’s wrapped in with the yarn, similar to the metallic threads you see in sparkly decorative yarns. The filament isn’t very noticeable in daylight, although there are several neon colors like the one shown, which are quite visible. But its sparkle will come out in the right light.

The hat is worked in knit 2, purl 2 ribbing, so it has considerable stretch. It’s worked in the round with top shaping. Although it’s a simple design, you do need to know how to do circular knitting. It’s done on smaller needles, both for added warmth and firmness and to protect the filament.
