Product Description
Classic and modern in design this unique one of a kind rug is 1.2m in diameter. Perfect for a little ladies bedroom, craft room or statement piece in your home. Unique Circular Crochet Rug with a spiral centrepiece, cross stitch and scalloped edges.
This rug should measure approximately 1.2m in diameter upon completion.
This is a written pattern in US terminology.
I have created a video tutorial for one of the special stitches used in my pattern.
Recommended yarn is chunky with a size 10mm crochet hook. I use 2/3 strands at once (depending on type of yarn) so need around 15 x 100g skeins at 150m per skein = approx. 2250m. Always purchase a ball or 2 more just in case ;) Shown in Panda Big Easy (now discontinued). A suggested substitute is shown below.
Raspberry Sorbet Circular Spiral Crochet Rug
What Is Being Made
The Raspberry Sorbet is a circular spiral crochet rug designed by Missy Dee Designs (Daina Mickus). This intermediate-level project creates a finished rug measuring approximately 1.2 meters in diameter, making it a substantial home décor piece suitable for living spaces, bedrooms, or other areas where a bold, colorful accent is desired.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This pattern employs a circular spiral construction method, which is a popular technique for creating seamless, continuously-worked round pieces. The spiral approach eliminates the need for joining rounds with slip stitches, resulting in a smooth, uninterrupted surface. This method is particularly effective for rugs as it creates a flat, even fabric that lies well on floors.
The pattern uses US crochet terminology and includes a US/UK conversion chart for crocheters who prefer British terminology, ensuring accessibility for international crafters. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that this project is suitable for crocheters with some foundational experience who are ready to tackle larger, more complex pieces.
Stitches Used
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the circular spiral construction typically incorporates fundamental crochet stitches worked in continuous rounds to build the rug's structure from the center outward. The pattern's intermediate classification suggests a combination of basic and intermediate-level stitches that work together to create the finished circular form.
Yarn and Materials
Yarn Weight: This pattern is designed for chunky and super chunky weight yarns, which create a quick, satisfying project and result in a substantial, durable rug.
Yarn Quantity: Approximately 12 balls of 100g chunky yarn are needed if working with 2 strands held together, or approximately 18 balls if using 3 strands held together. The pattern accommodates different yarn weights through flexible strand-holding techniques.
Hook Size: A 9mm or 10mm crochet hook is required. The pattern provides flexibility in hook and yarn pairing: crocheters can use a 9mm hook with 2 strands of yarn that typically calls for a 6mm hook, or a 10mm hook with 3 strands of the same yarn. This adaptability allows crafters to work with various yarn options while maintaining proper fabric density and finished dimensions.
Yarn Selection Strategy: The pattern recommends selecting yarn that would typically call for a 6mm hook when worked at single strand, then adjusting by holding multiple strands and using a larger hook. This technique allows for creative yarn choices and can help achieve the desired color and texture for the Raspberry Sorbet design.
