Raccoon Crochet Pattern with Movable Head and Legs by oohlookitsarabbit
Product Description
This Adobe Pdf file is my original design crochet pattern for a pose able standing or lying down raccoon. The written pattern is illustrated with photos showing every step in the construction of the raccoon.
The pattern is crocheted in a continuous spiral and requires knowledge of the following stitches (including increases and decreases): chain, slip stitch, and single crochet.
Item size will depend on the weight of yarn used. I crocheted my sample with Loops and Threads Impeccable worsted weight acrylic yarn and size F crochet hook. Sample size is about 4" tall, about 12" long including the tail, and 5 1/2" wide between the two front feet. The pattern was designed with a teddy bear disk type joint between the head and body and thread jointing of all four legs, so she is quite pose able.

Raccoon Crochet Pattern with Movable Head and Legs
What is Being Made
This is a crochet pattern for a stuffed raccoon toy designed by Susan Burkhart of "Ooh Look, it's a Rabbit!" Designs. The raccoon features movable head and legs, making it an articulated amigurumi-style toy that allows for poseable play and display. The pattern creates a three-dimensional plush animal suitable for children's toys, decorative pieces, or handmade gifts.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern is worked in a continuous spiral rather than in joined rounds, which creates a seamless fabric and requires the crafter to mark the end of each round with a paper clip or contrasting colored thread to keep track of progression. The movable head and legs are achieved through articulation techniques that allow these components to rotate or bend, adding interactive play value to the finished toy.
Stitches and Construction
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, typical construction for this style of toy involves fundamental crochet stitches combined in ways that build three-dimensional forms. The continuous spiral technique eliminates the need for joining, creating smooth transitions between rounds and a more polished finished appearance.
Materials and Yarn
This pattern calls for worsted weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that works well for amigurumi and stuffed toys, providing good stitch definition and durability. The pattern requires a crochet hook appropriate for worsted weight yarn. Stuffing material is needed to fill the body and create the plush toy structure.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, indicating it is suitable for crocheters with some experience beyond absolute beginners. The continuous spiral technique and articulation of movable parts require familiarity with basic crochet fundamentals and the ability to work three-dimensional shaping.
