Product Description
These beautiful mitts are quick to make and fun to wear! They have an easy lace pattern and use size 5 beads that you add with a steel crochet hook.
They are sized by changing the needle size. A small uses a U.S. 4 and 6, a medium a U.S. 5 and 7, and a large a U.S. 6 and 8.
Less than one skein of a worsted-weight yarn (one that normally knits at 5 stitches per inch) will make a pair. A lighter color will show the lace pattern better.

What is Being Made
Pretty Day Mitts are a pair of decorative hand coverings designed to add a touch of elegance to your everyday wear. These mitts are crafted using the knitting technique and are available in three sizes to accommodate different hand measurements: Small (6.5"), Medium (7.25"), and Large (8"). The pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond the basics.
Sizing and Fit
To determine the correct size, measure your hand circumference at the knuckles and select the size that corresponds most closely to your measurement. The sizing system uses a clever approach where stitch counts remain consistent across all sizes, with adjustments made through needle size selection rather than pattern modifications.
Knitting Techniques Used
This pattern employs several fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate-level crafters. The construction method allows flexibility in your preferred approach to working small circumferences, accommodating knitters who favor double-pointed needles, two circular needles, or the magic loop method. The pattern incorporates stitch markers to help track pattern repeats and construction points throughout the project.
Stitches and Stitch Details
The Pretty Day Mitts utilize a gauge of 5 stitches per inch when worked in worsted weight yarn. This gauge is achieved through the use of size-appropriate needles paired with worsted weight yarn. The pattern includes decorative elements, as evidenced by the inclusion of seed beads (size 5 or 6) in the construction, adding visual interest and embellishment to the finished mitts.
Materials Required
- Yarn: Approximately 120 yards of worsted weight yarn for any size. The pattern recommends yarns such as Malabrigo Rios, Noro Silk Garden, Berroco Ultra Alpaca, or Cascade 220, all of which knit at the required 5 stitches per inch gauge.
- Needles: Two sizes of needles are required for each size option. For Small: U.S. size 4 (3.25mm) and 6 (4.00mm); for Medium: U.S. size 5 (3.75mm) and 7 (4.5mm); for Large: U.S. size 6 (4.00mm) and 8 (5.00mm). Needles may be double-pointed needles, circular needles, or configured for magic loop technique according to your preference.
- Notions: Stitch markers in multiple colors (including a couple of green ones), a tapestry needle for finishing, small amounts of waste yarn, and approximately 30 seed beads in size 5 or 6 for embellishment.

Pretty Day Mitts is available as a downloadable PDF pattern, making it convenient for digital access and printing at home.
