Product Description
Pawlet Cardigan in Berroco Mochi
What Is Being Made
The Pawlet Cardigan is an intermediate-level knitted cardigan designed by Amy Christoffers. This garment is worked from the bottom up and features a classic button-front closure with six ¾" buttons. The cardigan is available in multiple sizes, ranging from 37" to 69" bust measurement when closed, with a consistent length of approximately 28½" to 32" measured down the center back. The design is shown in size 44" / 112 cm in Berroco Mochi yarn in the colorway #3246 Emerald.
Techniques Used
This cardigan employs several key knitting techniques to create its finished structure:
- Bottom-up construction: The garment is knitted starting from the lower edge and working upward toward the shoulders and neckline
- Worked flat: The pieces are knitted flat on straight needles rather than in the round, allowing for seaming during finishing
- Cable work: Charted cable patterns are incorporated into the design, adding textural interest and visual depth to the cardigan
- Seamed construction: Individual pieces are knitted separately and then seamed together to form the complete garment
Stitches Used
The Pawlet Cardigan features charted pattern stitches that include cable techniques. Knitters will work from charts to execute the cable patterns, which require careful stitch manipulation and attention to the charted instructions. The gauge for the charted pattern is 18 stitches and 24 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) when measured after blocking, using the larger needles.
Materials: Yarn, Needles, and Notions
Yarn: Berroco Mochi in the colorway #3246 Emerald. This yarn is a heavy worsted weight, and the pattern calls for 7 to 11 balls depending on the finished size (7–8 balls for the smallest sizes, increasing to 10–11 balls for the largest sizes). Each ball weighs 50 grams.
Needles: Two circular needles are required—one in size 6 / 4 mm and one in size 8 / 5 mm (or the size needed to obtain gauge). Both needles should measure 32" / 80 cm in length.
Additional notions: A tapestry needle for weaving in ends and seaming, a stitch holder or spare needle for holding stitches, waste yarn for stitch holders, and six ¾" buttons for the front closure.
Finishing and Fit
The pattern recommends positive ease of 2–4" / 5–10 cm for a comfortable, relaxed fit. All gauge measurements are taken after blocking, making it essential to block the finished pieces before seaming to ensure accurate finished dimensions and proper drape of the cable patterns.
