Paris 4 Piece Angel Set by Caroline Richards
What Is Being Made
The Paris Angel Set is a coordinated four-piece knitted outfit designed for reborn dolls measuring 16–22 inches or for newborn and 0–3 month old babies. This designer collection by Caroline Richards includes a knitted dress, hat, shorts, and socks that work together as a complete angel-themed ensemble. The set offers multiple sizing options to accommodate different doll proportions and baby ages, making it a versatile project for crafters working with various scales.
Garment Components
- Angel Top/Dress: A fitted knitted dress featuring a back closure secured with three buttons, designed to fit snugly on the doll or baby form
- Hat: A coordinating knitted hat to complete the angel aesthetic
- Shorts: Knitted shorts that pair with the dress for a complete outfit
- Socks: Finishing socks to complete the four-piece set
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This intermediate-level knitting project employs a range of fundamental and intermediate techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. The pattern utilizes several essential knitting stitches and methods to create structure, shaping, and decorative details.
- Stocking Stitch (st st.): The primary fabric construction method, created by alternating knit and purl rows to produce the classic smooth, V-patterned knit fabric
- Garter Stitch (G-st.): An all-knit stitch that creates a textured, ridged appearance, likely used for ribbing, cuffs, or decorative sections
- Increases: Multiple increase techniques including Make 1 (M1), created by picking up the loop between stitches and knitting into the back of it, and Knit Front and Back (KFB), which creates two stitches from one to add width and shaping
- Yarn Forward (yfwd.), Yarn Over (yo.), and Yarn Around Needle (yrn.): These techniques create new stitches and are often used for decorative eyelet details or lace elements
- Decreases (Dec.): Reductions in stitch count for shaping the garment pieces
- Slip Stitches (sl1.): Slipping stitches to create clean edges or prepare for other stitch techniques
- Pass Slip Stitch Over (p.s.s.o.): A decrease method commonly used in shaping
- Through Back Loop (Tbl.): A technique for creating twisted stitches or special stitch variations
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Paris Angel Set uses double knit (DK) weight yarn and 4-ply wool, depending on the sizing option selected. The pattern provides three distinct sizing categories with corresponding yarn quantities and needle sizes:
- For 21–22" Dolls or 0–3 Month Babies: 200 grams of double knit wool, worked on 2.75mm needles (smaller) and 4mm needles (larger)
- For 16–18" Dolls or Small Newborn Babies: 150 grams of 4-ply wool, worked on 3.25mm needles (smaller) and 3.25mm needles (larger)
- For 19–20" Dolls or Newborn Babies: 200 grams of double knit wool, worked on 3mm needles (smaller) and 3.75mm needles (larger)
The pattern requires three buttons for the back closure of the angel top. The use of different needle sizes within each size category allows for gauge control and creates varied fabric densities for different sections of the garments.
Pattern Structure and Difficulty Level
Rated as an intermediate-level project, the Paris Angel Set assumes knitters have foundational skills in basic stitches and shaping techniques. The pattern includes a comprehensive abbreviations guide, indicating that crafters should be comfortable reading standard knitting notation. The multi-piece construction and multiple sizing options add complexity, requiring careful attention to pattern instructions and gauge to ensure proper fit across the different doll and baby sizes.
