Product Description
The pattern is written out row by row, so no working our required (I think my poor tech editor was ready to throw in the towel after this experience!!) The pattern has been test knitted (a huge thank you to the wonderful test knitters), and technical edited. I am absolutely thrilled with the final garment which is such a simple easy knit and is sure to become your go-to cardigan.
The yarn used for the pictured garment was from Ozifarmer’s Market -- 8ply DK, colours ‘Vera’ and Taupe. The yarn was hand dyed to my specific requirements and I was absolutely thrilled with the outcome. Dawn decided to name the gradient colour after me…. ‘Vera’, very honoured.

Norwegian Fir Adult Cardigan by OGE Knitwear Designs
What is Being Made
The Norwegian Fir is an adult cardigan pattern designed by OGE Knitwear Designs, available in five adult sizes ranging from Extra Small (XS) to Extra Large (XL). This downloadable knitting pattern is tailored for intermediate-level knitters and offers finished chest measurements from 87.5 cm (34½ inches) at the smallest size up to 129 cm (50¾ inches) at the largest size. The cardigan features consistent sleeve lengths of 45.5 cm (18 inches) across all size options, making it a versatile layering piece suitable for various body types and preferences.
Knitting Techniques Used
This cardigan pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate crafters. The primary construction method involves working in garter stitch, which creates a textured, reversible fabric by knitting every row. The pattern utilizes standard shaping techniques including decreases to achieve proper garment fit and silhouette. Double-pointed needles are referenced in the abbreviations, indicating that certain sections of the garment—likely the neckline or cuffs—may be worked in the round using this needle style.
Stitches and Stitch Details
- Garter Stitch (g st): The primary stitch used throughout the cardigan, created by knitting every row to produce a bumpy, textured fabric with excellent drape and elasticity
- Decreases (dec): Used strategically for shaping the garment to fit the body properly across the various size options
- Double Pointed Needles (dpn): Employed for working sections in the round, typically at necklines, armholes, or cuff edges
Yarn and Materials
The Norwegian Fir cardigan is designed to be worked in DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that offers excellent stitch definition and drape for garment projects. The pattern specifies 3.75mm needles (US 5 / UK 9) for achieving the correct tension. The recommended gauge is 22 stitches and 40 rows measured over 10 cm (4 inches) when worked in garter stitch on the specified needles. This gauge ensures that the finished measurements will be accurate across all five size options, from the smallest XS upper arm circumference of 29 cm (11½ inches) to the largest XL measurement of 44.5 cm (17½ inches).
Size Range and Fit
The pattern accommodates a comprehensive range of adult body types with five distinct sizes. Upper arm circumferences range from 29 cm for XS to 44.5 cm for XL, while finished chest measurements span from 87.5 cm (34½ in) for XS through 98 cm (38½ in) for Small, 109 cm (43 in) for Medium, 118 cm (46½ in) for Large, and 129 cm (50¾ in) for Extra Large. This extensive sizing ensures that knitters of different proportions can find an appropriate fit for their needs.
