Simple rope cables like these can be arranged in a variety of ways to create what look like complex stitches. Patterns such as this are also easy to adapt to different sizes by working more or less stitches between each set of cables. For example the pattern here could have p1, k2, p1 between the pairs of 4 stitch rope cables, which would give 12 extra stitches, making another 7cm in width.

The two columns of cables at the centre also make an ideal splitting point for converting this jumper to a cardigan, with an extra stitch or two at the front edges.
