Product Description

With really easy-to-follow instructions, this pattern is suited for all skill levels, so if you have basic crochet knowledge, such as single crochet, double crochet increase, decrease, give it a go! :) The pattern includes pictures of what each individual piece should look like as well as detailed instructions for the assembly. Each piece is worked in spiral, so no need to slip stitch at the end of each round. Use a stitch marker to help you mark the end of each round. I use a piece of yarn as it leaves no unwanted openings. It is available in English and Spanish. Nina measures approximately 25 cms/ 9.8" tall standing up, if using a 2.00 crochet hook and 100% cotton yarn. I used Sole yarn, but feel free to use what you love most ( DMC natura just cotton is a good alternative). Use the colors of your liking! Although I have detailed the type of yarn and colours I decided to use.

Nina the Pig Crochet Amigurumi Pattern

What is Being Made

Nina the Pig is a small crocheted stuffed doll designed by Evita Lamadrid. This beginner-friendly amigurumi project creates a cute pig toy perfect for gift-giving or selling as a finished handmade item. The completed doll features a charming pig character with customizable color options and decorative embellishments.

Craft and Technique Overview

This pattern uses crochet as the primary construction method. Amigurumi is a Japanese crochet technique that creates three-dimensional stuffed toys and dolls by working in continuous rounds to form spherical and cylindrical shapes. The technique involves increasing and decreasing stitches strategically to shape body parts, which are then assembled together. This pattern is rated as beginner difficulty, making it accessible to newer crocheters while still producing a professional-looking finished toy.

Stitches and Abbreviations Used

The pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches suitable for amigurumi construction:

  • Single crochet (Sc): The primary stitch used throughout the pattern for creating dense, tight fabric ideal for stuffed toys
  • Chain (Ch): Used for starting rounds and creating foundational loops
  • Double crochet (Dc): Provides height variation in stitch work
  • Half double crochet (Hdc): Creates medium-height stitches for specific shaping
  • Increase (Inc): Adds stitches to expand sections of the doll
  • Decrease (Dec): Reduces stitches to shape and taper body parts
  • Slip stitch (Sl st): Joins rounds and creates seamless transitions
  • Back loop only (BLO): A technique that creates textured edges by working through only the back loop of stitches
  • Magic ring (MR): An advanced starting technique that creates a closed center for amigurumi pieces

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The pattern calls for specific materials to achieve the intended finished product:

  • Yarn: DMC Natura Just Cotton in 4-ply weight, available in pastel pink, pastel yellow, light green, and additional colors of your preference for the flower crown decoration
  • Crochet hook: 2.00 mm size hook, which creates tight, dense stitches appropriate for amigurumi stuffing security
  • Embellishments: Black embroidery thread for adding facial features and details
  • Additional supplies: Yarn needle for weaving in ends and assembling pieces, scissors for trimming yarn

Design Features

Nina includes decorative elements that enhance the finished toy's appeal. The pattern incorporates a flower crown made from the pastel-colored cotton yarn, adding a whimsical touch to the pig character. Black embroidery thread is used to embroider facial features, bringing personality and expression to the doll.
