Product Description
This crochet bag is named after N"Gor a small island in Senegal. Growing up I spent so many beautiful summer days on this island
I try to capture in this crochet design the airiness of the place and the joie de vivre its habitants exude.
The bag is approximately 8.5" tall (without the handle) and 9.5" wide (each side)
You will need less than 300 yard of the main color (DK or worsted yarn) and just a little bit of the color yarn to create the color infused fishnet pattern. In the pictured bag I used Stylecraft Apricot, Aspen, Sherbet, Parma Violet, Shrimp hook size 4.5 mm
This is a 13 pages pattern with detailed written instruction and loads of picture for each section.
I hope you enjoy making it.
Happy hooking!!
N'Gor Crochet Bag by Hookoflove
What is Being Made
The N'Gor Crochet Bag is a structured crochet tote bag designed by Ami ND for Hookoflove. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished bag measuring approximately 8.5 inches in height (without handle) and 9.5 inches in width. The bag features a practical design suitable for everyday use, with a sturdy construction and optional loop closure detail.
Construction Technique
The N'Gor Crochet Bag is worked from the bottom up, following a systematic four-stage construction process:
- Base: Construction begins with crocheting a square for the bottom and base of the bag, establishing the foundation for the project
- Decorative Pattern Section: After the base is complete, a color-infused fishnet pattern is worked into the bag, creating visual interest and texture through strategic color changes
- Main Body: Single crochet stitches are worked to build the bag to the specified height, creating a dense and durable fabric
- Handle: A stretched-proof sturdy handle is added to complete the functional design of the bag
- Closure: An optional loop closure can be added as a finishing detail
Stitches Used
The N'Gor Crochet Bag pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches to create its structure and visual effects. The primary stitches include:
- Chain (ch): Used for foundation and construction throughout the pattern
- Single Crochet (sc): The main stitch used to build the body of the bag, creating a tight, durable fabric
- Back Loop Single Crochet (blsc): Employed to create textural variation and definition in the bag
- Slip Stitch (sl st): Used for joining and finishing details
- Treble Crochet (tr): Incorporated into the color-infused fishnet pattern section for an open, decorative effect
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The N'Gor Crochet Bag is designed to be worked with DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides good stitch definition and drape. The pattern requires one main color plus five contrasting colors for the decorative fishnet section, allowing for creative color combinations.
In the pictured bag example, the yarn selections include Red Heart Super Saver in Cornmeal or Buff as a substitute for the main color, with Stylecraft Special DK used for the contrasting colors: Apricot, Aspen, Sherbet, Parma Violet, and Shrimp. A 4.5 mm crochet hook is used to work the yarn, and six stitch markers are required to track stitches throughout the construction process.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with some experience beyond basic skills. The combination of color changes in the fishnet pattern, managing multiple yarn colors, and constructing a structured bag with a handle requires intermediate-level crochet knowledge and attention to pattern details.
