Product Description
As much as I love all the wonderful creatures inhabiting the worlds’ dry lands, I am even more fascinated by Earths’ magical watery worlds and their colorful inhabitants. Here is a way to dive into the enchanting and spectacularly splashy underwater world, without even getting your feet wet!
The clownfish and the regal tang rose to fame, of course, through their animated counterparts in ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘Finding Dory’. This knitted bunch makes a great playset: it consists of Nemo, Dory and the anemone.
It is an easy project, that asks for some knitting flat and in the round, minor intarsia colorwork and picking up stitches (optional). It was knitted on 2.25 mm double pointed needles (UK 13, US 1). Only small amounts of yarns are needed, so these reef fish make a great project to use up any scraps (of any gauge) you have lying around. These reef fish were made in Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine and measure about 9 cm from head to tail.
Just keep knitting…. just keep knitting ;-)
Nemo & Dory Seascape Knitting Toys by AnimalKnitdom
Project Overview
This downloadable knitting pattern from independent designer AnimalKnitdom brings beloved animated characters to life as handmade toys. The project features two iconic fish characters: the common clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) and the blue or regal tang (Paracanthurus hepatus), designed as beginner-friendly knitted creations perfect for fans of Finding Nemo and Finding Dory.
Nemo the Clownfish
The clownfish character is inspired by the real-world Amphiprion ocellaris, a small fish that naturally inhabits reef slopes and sheltered lagoons. In nature, clownfish live in symbiotic relationships with sea anemones, such as the magnificent sea anemone (Heteractis magnifica), where the clownfish receives protection from the anemone's tentacles while keeping the anemone healthy through grooming behaviors. This knitted version captures the charm of the animated character while referencing these fascinating natural behaviors.
Dory the Blue Tang
The blue tang character is based on the regal tang (Paracanthurus hepatus), an eye-catching tropical fish found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. These fish are known for cruising over reef tops and grazing on algae. The knitted toy brings this vibrant character to life in yarn form, making it an engaging project for knitters of all skill levels.

This knitting pattern is designed as a beginner-level project, making it accessible to knitters new to toy construction.
