Product Description

When I first designed Little Momo, I had the little ones in mind for this top down raglan. But, the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to upsize it for adults. I made a few changes. I modified the sleeve, body length and eliminated the buttons. The cables give the classic shape some added interest.

Momo Sweater by Terri Kruse

What is Being Made

Momo is an adult-sized knit sweater designed by Terri Kruse as an upscaled version of her original Little Momo children's pattern. This pullover-style jumper features cable detailing that adds visual interest to a classic sweater silhouette. The design is available in six sizes ranging from 33 to 48 inches in finished chest measurement, with corresponding length adjustments from 21 to 24.25 inches.

Knitting Techniques Used

This advanced-level knitting project employs several key techniques to construct the garment. The sweater is worked in the round using circular needles, which allows for seamless construction and efficient stitch management. The pattern utilizes a top-down construction method with strategic increases worked at designated markers to shape the body and sleeves as the piece grows downward from the neckline. Cable work is incorporated throughout the design to create textural contrast and add classic design interest to the body of the sweater.

Stitches and Stitch Work

The pattern features cable stitches as the primary decorative element, worked in combination with stockinette stitch to create the main fabric. The sweater begins with a cast-on of 112 to 130 stitches depending on size, which are distributed across the front, back, and sleeve sections using stitch markers to delineate each section. The construction method involves working in the round with increases at marked positions to shape the sweater as it progresses.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

Momo is designed to be knitted with Malabrigo Silky Merino yarn, a luxury blend containing 51% silk and 49% merino wool. This yarn is classified as DK weight, with each 50-gram skein providing 150 yards of yardage. The pattern requires 5 to 7 skeins depending on the finished size selected, with the color used in the original design being Manzanilla Olive. The combination of silk and merino creates a yarn with excellent drape and a subtle sheen, ideal for showcasing cable detail work.

Needles and Tools Required

This pattern calls for US 5 (3.75mm) circular needles in two sizes: a 20-inch circular needle is used for the initial setup and smaller circumference sections, while a 32-inch circular needle is required for the larger sizes (33, 35, and 38 inches) to accommodate the increased stitch count as the sweater body expands. Stitch markers are essential for tracking pattern repeats and designating the front, back, and sleeve sections throughout the construction process.

Design Features and Modifications

The adult version of Momo incorporates several modifications from the original children's design. The sleeve length has been adjusted to provide appropriate proportions for adult sizing. The body length has been extended across all size ranges. The button closures present in the Little Momo version have been eliminated, making this a classic pullover-style sweater that is pulled over the head. These changes maintain the cable-detailed aesthetic while creating a garment specifically proportioned for adult wearers.
