Mini Pokemon Knitted Figures by Wooly McWoolface
What is Being Made
This downloadable knitting pattern creates three miniature Pokemon characters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Each finished figure measures approximately 12.5 cm in height, making them perfect small decorative pieces or toys. The pattern provides instructions for constructing the body and head components for each Pokemon design using basic knitting techniques.
Knitting Techniques Used
The pattern employs fundamental knitting methods suitable for intermediate-level crafters. Construction begins with casting on stitches at the bottom edge and progresses through alternating rows of knitting and purling. The designs incorporate several shaping techniques to create the three-dimensional form of each character.
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern utilizes the following stitches and techniques:
- Knit (K) - The primary stitch used throughout the construction
- Purl (P) - Used in alternating rows to create stocking stitch texture
- Stocking Stitch - The main fabric created by alternating knit and purl rows, providing a smooth, classic appearance
- K2tog (Knit Two Together) - A decrease technique for shaping
- K3tog (Knit Three Together) - An additional decrease method for more dramatic shaping
- Inc (Increase) - Created by knitting into the front and back of the same stitch to add stitches
- M (Make a Stitch) - Executed by lifting a strand from in front of the next stitch and knitting into the back of it
- P2tog (Purl Two Together) - A decrease worked on purl rows
Materials and Supplies
The pattern requires double knit (DK) weight yarn in multiple colors to represent each Pokemon character. Specific yarn colors needed include beige, light blue, brown, white, black (in very small amounts), and light brown (in very small amounts). Construction requires a pair of 3.25 mm (UK size 10) knitting needles for working with the DK weight yarn.
Additional materials include toy stuffing for creating a three-dimensional, padded form within each figure; a darning needle for weaving in ends and assembling pieces; scissors for cutting yarn; and a small amount of black and white felt with craft glue for adding fine details such as eyes and facial features to each Pokemon character.
Pattern Structure
The pattern is organized by character component, with separate instructions provided for the body and head sections of each Pokemon. Crafters begin by casting on a small number of stitches (typically 6 stitches) in the appropriate base color and work upward, following row-by-row instructions that incorporate increases, decreases, and color changes to achieve the characteristic shape of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
