Product Description
This little milk/fuel tanker pattern was designed for my kids. Apart from the wheels and optional signs for the rear tanker, most parts are crocheted into place to minimise sewing. You can add signs to the tankers or leave them blank (there are also 2 different options for making the signs). While the pattern has numerous colour changes for the cab and the tankers, it could easily be made with fewer colours.
Vehicle dimensions are as follows: Cab and front tanker Width: 7.5 cm; length: 15 cm; height: 11 cm Rear tanker Width: 7.5 cm; length: 17.5 cm; height: 11 cm
Milk and Fuel Tanker Crochet Pattern by Jenness Fulton
What is Being Made
This is a crochet toy tanker truck designed as part of a series of vehicles created for a children's road mat blanket. The pattern produces a milk and fuel tanker vehicle suitable for imaginative play and display. The design is inspired by the common sight of dairy industry tankers, fuel tankers, and stock feed tankers seen on rural roads in New Zealand, making it a culturally relevant and educational toy for children.
Design and Structure
The tanker truck consists of two main components: a truck cab and a cylindrical tanker body. The pattern accommodates various color schemes, with examples provided in both a purple colorway (using Lilac, Violet, and Purple shades) and a blue colorway (using Saxe, Victoria, and Twilight shades). Each colorway features a dark, mid-tone, and light color to create visual depth and dimension in the finished piece.
Techniques and Color Work
This pattern requires extensive color changes throughout the construction, making it suitable for intermediate crocheters who are comfortable managing multiple yarn colors. The designer encourages customization by noting that crafters can simplify the project by using fewer colors for the truck cab and tanker body if preferred. The color work creates realistic details and visual interest in the finished toy vehicle.
Stitches and Crochet Methods
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the provided content, this crochet pattern uses standard crochet techniques appropriate for toy construction. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that the pattern involves more than basic single crochet and likely incorporates shaping techniques necessary to form the rounded tanker body and structured cab of the vehicle.
