Product Description
Can anyone guess the reference for the name of this shawl?? Sarah definitely 'geeked out' on this one!! Kidding!
This is the perfect shawl for those 2 skeins in your stash that just need to be together!! Pick 2 fingering weight skeins that contrast yet compliment each other in just the right way. This tip to tip sideways triangle has tons of garter micro stripes and 3 beautiful lace panels that will show off your yarn wonderfully. I would say this is adventurous beginner as the lace is not the most simple and will take some paying close attention to. It's guaranteed not to be boring!
We had the pleasure of working with a new to us Indie Dyer called Things Created Equal and couldn't have enjoyed knitting with her yarn any more! We hope you check her out too!
Needles: Size 3.75mm (US5) and approx. a 36" cord. The stitch count will increase and the decrease again so no need to have a super long cord.
We hope you enjoy this knit as much as we did! Happy Knitting!
Midnight on Kobol Symmetrical Triangle Shawl
Project Overview
Midnight on Kobol is a beautiful symmetrical triangle shawl designed by Cozy Up Knits, crafted using the tip-to-tip construction method. This intermediate-level knitting project features a sophisticated combination of garter micro stripes and three elegant lace panels, creating visual depth and texture throughout the finished piece.
What Is Being Made
This is a two-skein shawl worked in a triangular shape using the tip-to-tip construction technique. The design showcases contrasting color work with garter stitch striping combined with delicate lace elements, making it suitable for both everyday wear and special occasions. The symmetrical construction ensures balanced, professional-looking results.
Knitting Techniques Used
- Tip-to-Tip Construction: The shawl is worked from one point to the opposite point, allowing for a seamless, integrated design
- Garter Micro Stripes: Alternating rows of garter stitch in two contrasting colors create subtle horizontal striping throughout the piece
- Lace Panels: Three distinct lace panels are integrated into the design, adding delicate openwork details
- Color Work: Two contrasting fingering weight yarns (C1 and C2) are worked together, with high contrast between colors recommended for optimal visual impact
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern employs fundamental knitting stitches combined with shaping techniques:
- k (knit): Basic knit stitch
- p (purl): Basic purl stitch
- kfbf: Knit into the front, back, and front of the stitch—a double increase that adds two stitches in one stitch
- k2tog: Knit two stitches together—a standard single decrease
- ssk: Slip, slip, knit—slip the next 2 stitches as if to knit, slip them back to the left needle, and knit them together through the back loop for a left-leaning decrease
- sssk: Slip, slip, slip, knit—slip the next 3 stitches as if to knit, slip them back to the left needle, and knit them together through the back loop for a double decrease
- sk2po: Slip next stitch, knit two together, pass slipped stitch over
- tbl (through back loop): Working through the back loop of stitches for twisted effects
Materials Required
Yarn: Approximately 840 yards total of fingering weight yarn—420 yards each of two contrasting colors (C1 and C2). The pattern specifies Things Created Equal fingering weight yarn as the recommended material. High contrast between the two color choices is essential for achieving the best visual results with the striped and lace design.
Needles: 3.75mm (US 5) needles with an approximately 36-inch circular cord for comfortable tip-to-tip construction and managing the increasing number of stitches as the triangle expands.
Difficulty Level
This project is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle lace panels and color work techniques. The combination of garter stitch striping, lace elements, and strategic shaping requires attention to pattern details and familiarity with decrease techniques.
