Product Description
Let me introduce my new pair of cuff-down socks. Start knitting at the cuff, then work the leg and heel flap, turn the heel using short rows, create the gusset, knit the foot of socks, finish with short, medium or long wedge toe and that’s it. The pattern stitch is obviously eye-catching and keeps you engaged but not too busy:-) I also like that the lengths of foot and leg of the socks are totally adjustable! Solid or semi-solid yarn show off the pattern best and nicely.
The pattern contains schematics, charts and written instructions, photo and video tutorials. It has been professionally tech edited and test knitted.

What is Being Made
Melissa Socks is a knitted sock pattern designed by Zsuzsanna Orthodoxou. The pattern provides instructions for creating fitted socks in three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. The finished socks are designed to fit foot circumferences of 6.75 (8, 9.25) inches / 17.5 (20.25, 23.25) cm, with adjustable foot lengths of 7.75 (9, 10) inches / 19.75 (22.75, 25.25) cm. The pattern accommodates various foot sizes through multiple sizing options, making it suitable for creating custom-fitted socks for different wearers.
Knitting Techniques
Melissa Socks employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for beginner-level crafters. The pattern utilizes the Kitchener stitch (also known as grafting) as a finishing technique, which is a method for seamlessly joining two sets of live stitches together. This advanced finishing technique creates an invisible seam, resulting in a professional appearance at the sock closure. The Kitchener stitch involves threading a tapestry needle through stitches on two needles in a specific sequence, alternating between knit and purl movements to blend the stitches seamlessly.
Stitches Used
- Knit stitch – the fundamental stitch forming the basis of sock construction
- Purl stitch – used in combination with knit stitches, particularly in the Kitchener stitch finishing process
- Kitchener stitch (grafting) – the primary finishing technique for joining sock sections with an invisible seam
Materials and Yarn Weight
Melissa Socks is designed to be worked with 3-ply yarn, a lightweight yarn weight that provides excellent stitch definition and drape suitable for fitted sock construction. The pattern requires standard knitting needles appropriate for the chosen yarn weight. A tapestry needle is essential for executing the Kitchener stitch finishing technique, used to thread yarn through the live stitches during the grafting process.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is classified as beginner level, making it accessible to knitters new to sock construction. While the Kitchener stitch finishing technique represents an intermediate skill, the overall pattern structure and stitch requirements remain straightforward enough for beginners to complete successfully with careful attention to the grafting instructions.
