What is Being Made

The Mascavo Wrap is a delicate, versatile knitted wrap designed as an elegant accessory suitable for any season. Measuring approximately 175 cm x 42 cm (70 inches x 17 inches), this wrap transitions seamlessly from a chilly summer night to a sunny winter day, making it a practical layering piece for any wardrobe.

Construction Method

The Mascavo Wrap is worked flat in two identical pieces that are joined together using an almost invisible seam. This construction approach creates a balanced, symmetrical design while allowing for manageable working sections during the knitting process.

Lace Stitch and Techniques

The pattern features an elegant and surprisingly easy-to-memorize lace stitch, making it accessible for intermediate-level knitters despite its delicate appearance. The lace work is the primary design element, creating an intricate visual texture throughout the wrap.

Stitches Used

• Knit (K) - fundamental stitch throughout the pattern
• Purl (P) - used in combination with knit stitches
• Knit Two Together (K2TOG) - a decrease technique that reduces one stitch
• Central Double Decrease (CDD) - slip 2 stitches as if to knit, knit 1, then pass the slipped stitches over, resulting in almost invisible decreases of 2 stitches

Materials and Yardage Requirements

The Mascavo Wrap requires approximately 830 meters (910 yards) of sport weight yarn. The sample was created using Garnstudio DROPS Baby Alpaca Silk, a luxurious blend of 70% Alpaca and 30% Silk in colorway Brown 5670, which provides both softness and drape ideal for a wrap construction.

Needles and Tools

The pattern is worked on 3.25 mm (US 3) circular needles with an 80 cm length. Additional tools include stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and row progression throughout the knitting process.
