Product Description
Re-introducing Marjorie – a feminine raglan pullover with a stockinette bodice and lovely, lace, three-quarter sleeves. Newly tweaked with revised text and metrics, this design is worked bottom-up and in-the-round to the armholes where it splits with front and back panels worked separately and flat. The sleeves are worked flat too, in Diamond Mesh Lace – an initially daunting 12 stitch by 20 row repeat, that is easily mastered and oh so pretty, making all knitting efforts worthwhile. Sleeves are seamed and joined to the upper bodice along their raglan edges. Ribbed trim at the neckline matches that at the hems, with stitches picked up from those held at bodice and sleeve tops. It’s a fun project. Enjoy!

Marjorie Raglan Pullover by Deb Hoss
What is Being Made
Marjorie is a feminine raglan pullover sweater designed by Deb Hoss. This knitted garment features a stockinette stitch bodice paired with elegant three-quarter length sleeves worked in Diamond Mesh Lace. The design is available in seven sizes ranging from 31 inches to 55 inches in finished bust circumference, accommodating a wide range of body sizes from petite to plus-size. The sweater is shown modeled in size 35 inches, worn with no ease for a fitted silhouette.
Construction Method
Marjorie is worked primarily in-the-round from the bottom up, making it an efficient construction method that minimizes seaming. The knitter begins at the hem and works circularly up to the armholes, where the piece splits into separate front and back panels that are then worked flat. The three-quarter sleeves are also worked flat, allowing for precise shaping and lace pattern placement. Once the sleeve pieces are completed, they are seamed and joined to the upper bodice along their raglan edges, creating the characteristic diagonal raglan seam lines that extend from the underarm to the neckline. Ribbed trim finishes both the neckline and hems, with stitches picked up from those held at the bodice and sleeve tops.
Stitches and Techniques Used
This intermediate-level design requires several essential knitting skills and stitch techniques. The bodice is worked in stockinette stitch, providing a smooth, classic foundation. The standout feature of Marjorie is the Diamond Mesh Lace pattern used for the sleeves, which consists of a 12 stitch by 20 row repeat. While initially appearing daunting, this lace pattern is described as easily mastered once understood, rewarding the knitter's effort with beautiful, delicate results.
Required techniques include:
- Long-tail cast-on for a sturdy, elastic foundation edge
- Circular knitting for working in-the-round on the bodice
- Decreasing methods including ssk (slip, slip, knit), k2tog (knit two together), sl1–k2tog–psso (slip one, knit two together, pass slipped stitch over), and p2tog (purl two together) for shaping and lace construction
- Ribbed knitting for the neckline and hem trim
- Flat knitting for the front and back panels and sleeves
- Seaming to join the lace sleeves to the bodice along raglan edges
- Picking up stitches to create the ribbed trim from held stitches
Materials
Marjorie is designed to be worked in sport weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category that creates a delicate, drape-friendly fabric ideal for the lace sleeve details and fitted silhouette. The pattern is a downloadable PDF format, allowing knitters to access the complete instructions and schematics immediately upon purchase. Standard knitting needles appropriate for sport weight yarn and a circular needle for in-the-round construction are required, along with basic finishing tools for seaming and weaving in ends.
Skill Level
Marjorie is rated as an intermediate difficulty project, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex stitch patterns and multi-part construction methods. The combination of in-the-round and flat knitting, along with the Diamond Mesh Lace pattern, provides an engaging challenge without being overwhelming for experienced beginners.
