Product Description
Wonderful, amazing, beautiful scraps. We all have them, but do not know what to do with them. Use as many colors as you desire to make this top, but the pattern has seven different colors for the basic. This chevron stitch is one of those amazing stitches that looks complicated, but is a simple two row repeat. Even a beginner can do this stitch. Finally your scraps will be knitted into something pretty.
**YARDAGE:**approximately 80, (90, 100, 110), 130 yd. / 74, (83, 91, 100), 119 mtr. of each of the seven colors.

What is Being Made
The Love your Scraps Top is a knitted garment designed to transform leftover yarn into a finished, wearable piece. This top celebrates scrap yarn usage by incorporating multiple colors into a single cohesive design. The pattern accommodates seven different colors in the basic version, though knitters are encouraged to use as many or as few colors as desired from their personal yarn stash. The result is a colorful, striped top with visual interest created through strategic color placement.
Techniques and Stitches
The primary stitch technique used in this top is the chevron stitch, a pattern that creates distinctive zigzag or wave-like formations across the fabric. Despite its visually complex appearance, the chevron stitch operates on a simple two-row repeat, making it accessible even to beginner knitters. This straightforward stitch structure allows knitters to focus on color changes and garment construction rather than complicated stitch manipulation.
The garment is worked in stockinette stitch (st st) as the base fabric, which provides a smooth, classic knit surface. The top is constructed using a circular needle technique, allowing for seamless or nearly seamless construction depending on the pattern's specific instructions.
Materials and Gauge
The Love your Scraps Top is designed for fingering weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category that creates delicate, refined fabric. The pattern specifies that any fingering weight yarn may be used, provided it achieves the correct gauge. The pictured sample was knitted in Sandnes Mandarin Petit, a specific fingering weight yarn that demonstrates the intended finished appearance.
Needles required are US 2.5 / 3.0 mm circular needles in a 24-inch (60 cm) length. The recommended gauge is 27 stitches by 32 rows over 4 inches by 4 inches (10 cm by 10 cm) in stockinette stitch when blocked. Achieving proper gauge is essential for obtaining the correct finished garment size, and knitters are advised to knit a gauge swatch and adjust needle size as necessary before beginning the project.
Yardage Requirements
Yarn yardage varies by size. The pattern provides yardage in both yards and meters for each size option: approximately 80 yards (74 meters), 90 yards (83 meters), 100 yards (91 meters), 110 yards (100 meters), or 130 yards (119 meters) of each color used. This yardage breakdown allows knitters to plan their scrap yarn usage efficiently across multiple colors.
Difficulty Level
Rated as an intermediate project, the Love your Scraps Top is suitable for knitters with some experience. While the chevron stitch itself is simple enough for beginners, the overall project involves intermediate-level skills such as working with circular needles, managing multiple colors, and understanding gauge and blocking techniques.
