Love Heart Knitting Pattern by Amanda Berry

What is Being Made

The Love Heart pattern creates small decorative heart-shaped pieces that are quick to knit and suitable as gifts. Each finished heart is constructed from two separate knitted pieces that are sewn together along the side edges to form a three-dimensional heart shape.

Craft and Techniques

This is a knitting pattern designed for beginners. The pattern uses flat knitting (working back and forth) on single pointed needles rather than knitting in the round. The construction method involves:

  • Casting on using the long tail cast on technique
  • Knitting flat across rows to create two heart-shaped pieces
  • Seaming the two pieces together along the side edges using a darning needle
  • Casting off by cutting the yarn and pulling the stitches off the needle onto a darning needle before fastening off

Stitches and Construction

While specific stitch patterns are not detailed in the provided content, the pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques accessible to beginners. The two-piece construction method allows for easier shaping of the heart form compared to more complex knitting methods.

Materials and Yarn

The Love Heart pattern calls for DK weight yarn (also known as double knitting, 8 ply, or light worsted weight). Less than 10g of yarn is required per heart, making this an economical project. The pattern was created using Hayfield Bonus DK, a 100% acrylic yarn in the shade Cerise (a deep pink). A pair of 4mm (US 6) single pointed needles and a darning or tapestry needle for seaming are required to complete the project.
