Product Description

LOOP HOLE is an all-in-one piece sweater with enough ease to make it an everyday, go-to sweater. I have actually knit myself both a M size with the recommended (10”/24.5cm) positive ease, as well as a S size with 5”/13cm positive ease for a little more fitted look. You can also choose your length, the number of colors you want to use and whether you want a pullover or cardigan (there are 2 different patterns, but if you buy both, you will enjoy a 44% discount)! In any event, your LOOP HOLE will be a sweater that you enjoy knitting AND wearing.

Loop Hole Pullover by VERSACIKNITS

Garment Overview

The Loop Hole is a women's pullover sweater designed by VERSACIKNITS and available in both shorter and longer versions. This intermediate-level knitting project features a modern, versatile construction suitable for knitters with foundational skills. The sweater is shown in size Medium in its shorter version on a model standing 5'3" with a 39" bust measurement.

Design and Fit

This pullover is engineered with approximately 9" to 10" of positive ease at the bust, providing a comfortable, relaxed fit. The garment is offered in a comprehensive range of women's sizes: XS, S, M, L, 1X, 2X, and 3X. The shorter version measures approximately 29¼" to 32¼" in length depending on size, while the longer version extends the length accordingly. Finished bust circumferences range from 40" for the smallest size to 64" for the largest size.

Yarn and Materials

The Loop Hole is constructed using sport weight yarn, which creates a lightweight yet structured fabric suitable for layering or wearing as a standalone piece. The pattern calls for either the longer version (approximately 1675 to 3025 yards depending on size) or the shorter version (approximately 1375 yards for the base yardage). The yarn is divided strategically: 10% of the total yardage is allocated for trims in color A, with the remaining 90% split evenly among colors A, B, C, and D, allowing for creative colorwork possibilities. The design shown features Jill Draper Makes Stuff Mohonk Light yarn in the colorways Malachite, Lilac, Carnelian, and Pink Oyster Mushroom.

Needles and Notions

Construction requires US size 4 (3.5mm) and US size 5 (3.75mm) needles. The pattern utilizes both double-pointed needles and circular needles measuring 32" or longer, indicating that the sweater is worked in the round for seamless construction. This technique is common in modern pullover design and eliminates the need for seaming.

Gauge and Stitches

The gauge for this project is 24 stitches and 32 rows per round equals 4 inches (10 centimeters) when worked in stockinette stitch on the larger needle and blocked. Achieving proper gauge is essential for this pattern, as it directly impacts the finished measurements and fit of the garment. The primary stitch used is stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a defined V-knit texture on the right side.

Knitting Techniques

The Loop Hole employs in-the-round knitting techniques, which streamlines the construction process and creates a seamless garment. The use of both double-pointed needles and circular needles suggests transitions between different needle types as the circumference changes during construction—typically using double-pointed needles for smaller circumferences (such as the neckline or cuffs) and switching to circular needles for the larger body sections. The pattern incorporates colorwork elements, as evidenced by the four-color yarn distribution, which may feature stripes or other color-blocking techniques. The inclusion of trim sections worked in color A suggests ribbed or garter stitch edgings at the neckline, cuffs, and hem to provide structure and prevent curling.

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate difficulty, the Loop Hole is suitable for knitters who have mastered basic techniques including cast-on methods, knit and purl stitches, increasing and decreasing, and working in the round. The colorwork element and seamless construction add complexity beyond beginner projects, but the straightforward stockinette stitch base keeps the project manageable for developing knitters.
