49er hat
I have made 2 now in the San Francisco 49er colors to sell at our Church sale. Thank you. Love how the pattern is broken down by stripes! So easy to pick right back up after leaving the pattern for a couple days!
Feel free to use any worsted weight yarn you may have available for this hat. Choose the colors of your favorite sports team, or use multiple colors from your stash for a very unique hat! These work up quickly (3 to 4 hours) and make excellent gifts for anyone!
The Longstocking Fan Hat with Pom Pom is a crocheted hat designed to showcase team colors or personal color preferences. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished hat measuring 36 inches long including the pom pom and 20 inches around at the brim with ease included. The design features a decorative pom pom topper and incorporates striped colorwork throughout the construction.
This project is created entirely through crochet, worked in the round from the bottom up. The pattern teaches fundamental crochet techniques suitable for beginners, including how to work increases to shape the hat crown and how to execute post ribbing for textural detail. The striped colorwork is achieved through strategic color changes during the joining process at the end of each round. The pattern includes complete video tutorials available for both right-handed and left-handed crocheters, making it accessible to all skill levels.
Yarn: The pattern calls for 1 skein of each color in worsted weight yarn, requiring approximately 200 yards of each color. The hat shown in the pattern uses Red Heart Supersaver, which is 100% acrylic yarn available in 364 yards per skein (333 meters, 7 ounces or 198 grams). Aran weight yarn is suitable for this project.
Hooks and Notions: A size J/10 (6.00 mm) crochet hook or the size needed to meet gauge is required. Additional notions include a yarn needle for hiding loose strands, a pom pom maker measuring 3 3/8 inches or 85 millimeters, and sharp scissors for finishing.
The pattern specifies a gauge of 11 stitches and 7 rows measuring 4 inches in double crochet. Meeting this gauge ensures the finished hat dimensions of 20 inches around the brim are accurate. The skill level is rated as Easy, making this an ideal project for beginners learning fundamental crochet increases and color work techniques.
