What is Being Made
The Lolina Shawl is a top-down triangular shawl designed by Gabrielle Vézina. This elegant and graceful accessory features an allover flowery lace pattern with chained eyelets throughout, making it a sophisticated layering piece suitable for various occasions.
Design and Construction
This shawl is constructed from the top down, allowing knitters to customize the finished size by repeating the main pattern sections as many times as desired. This adaptability makes the Lolina Shawl an excellent project for using up specific yardage amounts, as knitters can work until they reach their desired dimensions or run out of yarn. The triangular silhouette is a classic shawl shape that drapes beautifully when worn.
Stitches and Techniques
The Lolina Shawl showcases basic lace stitches worked on both right side and wrong side rows to create visual interest across the entire fabric. The pattern incorporates flowery lace motifs and chained eyelets that form an intricate, allover design. Working lace stitches on the wrong side rows adds complexity and creates a more sophisticated finished fabric compared to simpler shawl patterns.
Yarn and Materials
The Lolina Shawl is versatile in yarn weight selection and can be knitted using lace weight, sport weight, 3-ply, or 4-ply yarn. Knitters have the option to pair their chosen yarn with a strand of fuzzy yarn for added texture and visual interest, or work with a single yarn strand for a more delicate appearance. This flexibility allows crafters to customize the final look and drape of their shawl.
Skill Level
Rated as an intermediate difficulty project, the Lolina Shawl is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle lace patterns. The combination of lace stitches on both sides of the fabric and the need to maintain pattern consistency throughout makes this an engaging project for developing lace-knitting proficiency.
