Product Description

Patterns to knit both plain colour and stripy robots from any chunky yarn you have available.

Knitted flat on 4mm straight knitting needles these robots can be embellished with any buttons you have in your stash. The instructions are for making small pocket-sized robots but you can easily use larger knitting needles to make bigger squishy toys.

For the pink yarn we suggest Paintbox Simply Chunky in Bubblegum Pink (colour 350) (As an alternative, StyleCraft Special Chunky in 1241 Fondant is a nearly identical pink) and for the green StyleCraft Special Chunky in 1422 Aspen. For a slightly lighter green you can use Cygnet Kiddies Supersoft Chunky in 2062 Clover.

Little Robot Knitting Pattern by Gift Horse Kits

What Is Being Made

The Little Robot is a beginner-friendly knitting pattern designed to create small, pocket-sized toy robots. These charming stuffed toys can be customized with plain colors or stripes, making them perfect for gift-giving or personal collection. The pattern allows for size variation by adjusting needle size, enabling crafters to create larger versions if desired.

Techniques Used

This knitting pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginners. The construction involves basic flat knitting on straight needles to create individual pieces that are subsequently assembled. The pattern includes simple shaping and straightforward stitch work, making it an ideal introductory project for those new to toy knitting. Assembly techniques involve stuffing and seaming pieces together to form the three-dimensional robot structure.

Stitches Used

While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided content, the pattern utilizes basic knitting stitches appropriate for chunky yarn work. The simplicity of the design suggests the use of fundamental stitches such as knit and purl, combined in straightforward patterns to create the robot's body, limbs, and head components.

Materials Required

  • Needles: 4mm straight knitting needles (for standard size; larger needles can be used for bigger robots)
  • Yarn: Chunky weight yarn in your choice of color. The pattern specifically references Paintbox Simply Chunky in Bubblegum Pink (colour 350) for the body, requiring approximately half a ball. StyleCraft Special Chunky in shade 1241 Fondant is noted as a nearly identical alternative. A small amount of contrasting chunky yarn is needed for the hands.
  • Additional Materials: Toy stuffing for padding, a darning needle for finishing, small amounts of dark and light pink felt, assorted buttons for the control panel, optional round wooden buttons for ears, white and black cotton thread, and approximately one metre of black DK yarn for embroidered eyes and mouth details

Design Flexibility

The pattern offers creative flexibility for customization. Crafters can work with any chunky yarn from their existing stash in solid colors or create stripy versions by alternating yarn colors. Button selection for the chest control panel and ears allows for personalization based on available materials, making each robot unique.
