L'Infinita - Infinity - is just what the name implies: a continuous loop with endless possibilities. Wear it long or loop it around your neck or ears as much as you like. The pattern can also be repeated "to infinity" to make it as deep as desired.
The finished size is a loop that is 13cm/5" deep and 150cm/60" around. It is knitted with one skein of Arroyo. While gauge for this pattern is easily adjusted, you may need additional yarn.

What Is Being Made
L'Infinita Cowl is a continuous loop cowl designed to be worn in multiple ways. The name references infinity, reflecting the pattern's versatile construction that allows the wearer to loop it around the neck, ears, or style it in various configurations. The cowl features a finished circumference of 80cm/32", making it adaptable to different wearing preferences and adjustable in depth through pattern repetition.
Knitting Techniques Used
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques. The cowl is worked in the round using a circular needle, which creates a seamless, continuous construction. The pattern incorporates both lace and textured stitch work, combining open lacework sections with structured ribbed elements. The designer notes that any cast-on method works, though the long-tail cast-on is specifically recommended to coordinate with a knitted bind-off for a polished finish. Gauge adjustment is possible, though additional yarn may be required if modifications are made.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The L'Infinita Cowl features two primary stitch pattern sections that work together to create visual interest:
- Lace Lattice — This open, decorative stitch pattern comprises rows 5 through 12 and creates an airy, elegant aesthetic
- Broken Rib — This textured pattern runs from rows 13 through 22 and provides structure and depth to the cowl
The base construction uses stockinette stitch, worked flat for gauge purposes. The pattern is designed to be repeatable; crafters can extend the cowl's depth by repeating the Lace Lattice and Broken Rib sections as desired, always ending with a final Lace Lattice repeat to maintain pattern integrity.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The L'Infinita Cowl is worked with Malabrigo Arroyo, a 100% merino wool yarn in the sport weight category. One skein provides 306 meters/335 yards per 100 grams (3.53 ounces), which is sufficient for the standard finished cowl. The recommended color is Chircas. Construction requires a 4.0mm/US #6 circular needle measuring 80cm/32" in length, one stitch marker, and a darning needle for finishing. The pattern achieves a gauge of 23 stitches and 29 rows over 10cm/4" in unblocked stockinette stitch.
