What is Being Made
The Lilith Cardigan is a drop-sleeve, long-line cardigan designed by Holly Woodward Designs. This garment features deeply cuffed balloon sleeves and is constructed from three different sized rectangles, making it an accessible project for beginners. The cardigan is designed with plenty of positive ease in the sleeves and bust, making it suitable for bodies of all shapes and sizes. Its simple and classic silhouette is enhanced by the addition of dramatic, voluminous sleeves, creating a striking visual effect perfect for wrapping up on cooler summer nights.
Construction and Techniques
The Lilith Cardigan employs a straightforward construction method that makes it an excellent beginner garment. The cardigan is built almost entirely from simple rectangular pieces that are sewn together, eliminating the need for complex shaping or intricate assembly techniques. This modular approach allows crafters to work on manageable sections before joining them to create the finished garment. The vertical working method creates a knit-like appearance in the finished fabric, giving the crocheted cardigan a refined, polished look despite its simple construction.
Stitches Used
The Lilith Cardigan is made predominantly using half treble stitches throughout the garment. This stitch choice contributes to the knit-like texture and drape of the finished cardigan while remaining beginner-friendly. The consistent use of this single stitch simplifies the pattern and allows crafters to develop rhythm and consistency in their work.
Materials
This pattern is designed to be worked with aran weight yarn, which provides excellent drape and structure for a long-line cardigan. The appropriate crochet hook size for aran weight yarn will be specified in the pattern details. The rectangular construction method means yarn requirements are straightforward to calculate based on the finished dimensions of each piece.
Difficulty Level
The Lilith Cardigan is rated as a beginner-level crochet project, making it ideal for those new to garment construction. The simple rectangular shapes, single primary stitch, and straightforward assembly process allow beginners to successfully complete a wearable, fashionable garment while building fundamental crochet skills.
