Product Description
This cowl is knit in the round with a stranded colorwork pattern that is charted. Within the pattern, you will have to work the three different colors on the same round. To do this, just catch the floats of the two colors that are worked less with each other. When told to “cut yarn” always be sure to leave enough of a tail to weave in the end (about 6-8” should work). Feel free to carry yarn vertically up the colorwork section, by catching floats, or cut yarns (whichever you are more comfortable with).
The inspiration for this pattern came from watching my husband play Legends of Zelda. The center motif reminds me of the rupees in the game. I designed this cowl to be a part of a set that also includes a hat. You can knit just one or both for a matching set. This set will be perfect for winter walks and hikes. The rich, darker tones of the blend of wools used by The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers make the colors work so well together.

What Is Being Made
A cowl—a tubular neckwear accessory knit in the round using a three-color stranded colorwork design. The finished piece combines functionality with decorative patterning, suitable for layering over everyday outfits.
Knitting Techniques Used
- Stranded colorwork: The primary technique, involving working with multiple yarn colors in the same round while carrying unused colors as floats across the back of the fabric
- Float catching: A method for managing long floats by catching them with working yarn to prevent excessive slack and maintain fabric integrity
- Knitting in the round: Using circular needles to create a seamless tubular construction
- Yarn management: Techniques for handling three different colors simultaneously within the same round, including options for carrying yarn vertically or cutting and rejoining as needed
Stitches and Stitch Pattern
The cowl features a charted stranded colorwork pattern. Knitters will work the pattern as indicated on the provided chart, managing three distinct colors across the same round. The pattern requires attention to float tension and careful color changes to achieve even, professional-looking colorwork.
