LoveCrafts have become my go to site for anything stitchy.
I have the pdf download as well as online help for this pattern which is great.
Finally, something for the guys in a pattern + video tutorial! While my original sketches for this included cables, a shawl collar, buttons, stripes, (and more); masculine feedback on the design helped me to edit it down to something that even the most conservative dresser will want to wear. (And just enough going on to keep it interesting for the knitter.)
This pattern includes links to eight instructional videos to walk you through the tricky parts of working the pattern. You can view the videos for free at the bottom of this post.

This is an intermediate-level knitting pattern designed to teach knitters how to create a classic men's sweater. The pattern is available as a downloadable PDF and comes in five sizes to fit chest measurements ranging from 34 inches to 50 inches. The design features a modern construction approach with positive ease built into the fit, ensuring a comfortable and wearable finished garment.
A fitted men's sweater with a crew neckline and long sleeves. The pattern includes sizing for Small, Medium, Large, XLarge, and XXLarge, with each size designed to fit actual chest measurements of 34" (38", 42", 46", 50") respectively. The sweater incorporates 2 inches of positive ease, meaning a size Large sweater knits to fit a 42-inch chest with comfortable wearing room built in.
This pattern employs several essential knitting techniques suitable for intermediate-level crafters. The sweater is constructed using a combination of circular and straight needles, allowing for both flat and in-the-round knitting. A key feature of this design is the inclusion of a 12-inch zipper, which requires additional techniques for installation using bias tape (optional) and a knit picker tool for finishing.
The pattern utilizes stitch markers extensively throughout construction, requiring 4 ring stitch markers and a clippie marker to track pattern repeats and shaping increases or decreases. This methodical approach helps knitters maintain accuracy across the multiple sizes and complex sections of the sweater.
The primary stitch used in this sweater is stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a flat knit side and a bumpy purl side. The pattern is worked to a gauge of 5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch, which is standard for worsted-weight yarn and contributes to a fabric with good drape and durability suitable for a men's garment.
The pattern calls for worsted-weight yarn, with the original design using Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Tweed in the colorway Farmhouse Heather. Yardage requirements vary by size: Small requires 1,300 yards (12 skeins), Medium requires 1,400 yards (12 skeins), Large requires 1,550 yards (14 skeins), XLarge requires 1,700 yards (16 skeins), and XXLarge requires 1,850 yards (17 skeins). Any worsted-weight yarn of comparable yardage can be substituted for the specified yarn.
This pattern requires multiple needle sizes and types to accommodate different sections of the sweater:
Additional tools required include a clippie marker, 4 ring stitch markers, a 12-inch zipper, bias tape (optional), and a knit picker tool (also called a snag fixer) for professional zipper installation.
Rated as an intermediate difficulty level, this pattern is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle multi-piece construction, shaping techniques, and finishing details. The inclusion of zipper installation and the need to work across multiple needle types makes this an excellent project for building advanced finishing skills.
