Product Description
My partner is a huge cricket fan and I always love making fun knitted gifts for him, so this cricket ball was the perfect gift for him at Christmas. This cricket ball will make a great ball to safely throw with his teeny nephews and teach them how to be great fielders!
This pattern set gives you instructions to make a Knitted Baseball and Cricket Ball in three different sizes: standard, small and mini.
The standard size is closest to the real thing, small is suitable for decorations and mini is perfect for keyrings.
This pattern is available for free on my blog. For an ad-free version, you can buy this PDF.
Knitted Baseball and Cricket Ball by Ruth Haydock
What is Being Made
This downloadable knitting pattern by Ruth Haydock provides instructions for creating realistic knitted versions of both a baseball and a cricket ball. The pattern set includes three different size options—standard, small, and mini—allowing crafters to choose the scale that best suits their needs. The standard size is designed to be closest to the proportions of actual baseballs and cricket balls, making these toys suitable for play, display, or decoration.
Techniques Used
The construction of these knitted balls employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for intermediate-level crafters. The pattern utilizes a structured approach to create spherical shapes, incorporating color work to achieve the distinctive markings characteristic of both sports balls. Stitching techniques are employed to add fine details and seams, enhancing the authenticity of the finished toys.
Stitches Used
While the complete stitch guide is referenced in the pattern documentation, the design incorporates standard knitting stitches appropriate for toy making. The pattern includes instructions for shaping the balls through increases and decreases to achieve proper spherical construction. Wine or red-colored yarn is used for stitching details that replicate the characteristic seams found on authentic baseballs and cricket balls.

Project Overview
This intermediate-level knitting project is ideal for crafters looking to expand their toy-making skills. The pattern's inclusion of multiple sizes makes it versatile for various applications, from creating small decorative pieces to larger play toys. The use of DK weight yarn provides good stitch definition while remaining manageable for shaping, and the minimal yardage requirements make this an economical project choice.
