Klambratún Stole by Janelle Martin
What is Being Made
The Klambratún Stole is an intermediate-level knitted shawl designed by Janelle Martin. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a sophisticated wrap-style garment inspired by the natural beauty of Klambratún Park in Reykjavik, Iceland. The design was originally created in 2017 and features stitch patterns that echo the aesthetic of birch trees found in the park. The stole is available in two sizes, accommodating different yardage requirements and finished dimensions.
Inspiration and Design History
The stitch patterns in this design draw direct inspiration from birch trees native to Klambratún Park in Reykjavik, Iceland. The pattern was originally developed in 2017 using a special commemorative colorway of Caper Sock yarn created to celebrate Shall We Knit's 10th anniversary. Due to timing, the pattern release was delayed until the present, coinciding with String Theory's retirement of the beloved Caper Sock yarn line. This makes the Klambratún Stole an excellent opportunity for knitters with Caper Sock in their stash to showcase the yarn's depth of color and stitch definition.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The Klambratún Stole employs stitch patterns specifically designed to create a visual representation of birch tree imagery. The pattern utilizes techniques appropriate for intermediate-level knitters, requiring attention to stitch detail and pattern repeat accuracy. The stitch work is engineered to highlight yarn characteristics, particularly the color variation and definition that premium fingering-weight yarns provide.
