Product Description
Kitchen scrubber made from tulle, worked in one piece, in the round.
After making many samples, and putting them through the usage test, I'm happy with this final pattern.
Tulle can be purchased in 6' rolls in many different colors from your local craft store. It's located with the ribbon in my local store. You'll need at least one spool to make a scrubber, you may be able to get three out of two spools, but it will depend on the length available. Each scrubber takes about 11-12 yards of tulle and it will use the entire 6" width of the tulle.
Kitchen Scrubber by Victoria Gottschalk
What is Being Made
This is a crochet kitchen scrubber designed by Victoria Gottschalk of Crochet Sunnshyne. The finished scrubber measures 3 1/4" in diameter, making it a compact, practical tool for dishwashing and kitchen cleaning tasks. The project uses tulle material combined with crochet techniques to create an effective scrubbing surface.
Techniques Used
The scrubber is constructed using fundamental crochet techniques worked in the round. The pattern begins with a magic circle or magic ring, which is a popular method for starting circular projects. The first three rounds are joined using slip stitches, while the remaining rounds are worked continuously without joining, creating a seamless construction. This approach combines both joined and continuous round methods within a single project. The pattern includes special instructions to keep the beginning tail exposed throughout the crocheting process for accessibility at the end of the project.
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch) – Used to begin rounds and for foundational stitches
- Single Crochet (sc) – A fundamental short stitch used throughout the pattern
- Half Double Crochet (hdc) – A medium-height stitch incorporated into the design
- Double Crochet (dc) – A taller stitch used in the pattern construction
- Slip Stitch (sl st) – Used to join the first three rounds
- Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog) – A decrease stitch for shaping
- Half Double Crochet 2 Together (hdc2tog) – An alternative decrease stitch option
- Back Loop Only (blo) – A technique for working through only the back loop of stitches for textural variation
Materials and Tools
The kitchen scrubber pattern calls for 6" tulle measuring approximately 36 feet (11 1/4 yards) in a color of your choice. This tulle material is what creates the scrubbing texture and effectiveness of the finished product. The pattern requires one US size L (8mm) crochet hook, which is a chunky-sized hook appropriate for working with the tulle material. Additional supplies include a yarn needle for weaving in ends and scissors for cutting.
Difficulty Level
This project is rated as Easy according to the pattern, making it accessible to beginner and intermediate crocheters. While the pattern involves multiple stitch types and working in the round, the straightforward construction and small finished size make it an ideal project for those building their crochet skills.
