Product Description
this casual beauty was created in collaboration with WalkCollection Thank you Cathrin - I appreciate your faith in me!!!!
sample is worn with approx. 2.5 inches of positive ease
Kynance Cove is worked seamlessly from the top down. Knitting starts from a provisional CO. Shoulder parts are worked first, then sts are picked up for sleeve caps. From this point fronts, sleeves and back are worked simultaneously top down to sleeve separation, where sleeve sts are placed on hold to work the body in one piece to the final length of the placket, where the sweater is joined to knit in the round. After finishing the body, sleeve sts are picked up again to work the sleeves in the round top down to the cuffs. Last step is to pick up sts for the button bands and neckband.
Please keep in mind that you are able to try the garment on from time to time to check the fit and adjust st counts or length to your own preferences.
Kynance Cove Handknit Sweater by Isabell Kraemer
What is Being Made
Kynance Cove is an intermediate-level handknit sweater design created by Isabell Kraemer. This pullover sweater is available in eight sizes ranging from XS to XXXL, with finished bust measurements from 85 cm (34 inches) to 137 cm (54.75 inches), making it suitable for a wide range of body types and fit preferences. The pattern provides detailed schematic measurements to ensure proper sizing and garment fit.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This design employs classic sweater construction techniques appropriate for intermediate knitters. The pattern utilizes circular needles for seamless knitting, which reduces finishing work and creates a more polished final garment. The sweater is worked using the magic loop method or longer circular needles for smaller circumferences, allowing knitters to work in the round without requiring multiple double-pointed needles if preferred. The construction method ensures even tension and professional results throughout the body and sleeve sections.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The pattern incorporates ribbing as a key stitch element, worked on smaller needles to create elasticity and structure at cuffs, waistband, and neckline areas. The ribbing is worked using 3.5 mm needles, creating a fitted, stretchy finish that helps the sweater maintain its shape during wear and washing. The body and sleeves are worked on larger 4 mm needles, allowing for a more relaxed fabric with appropriate drape and comfort.
Yarn and Materials
Kynance Cove is designed to be knitted with WalkCollection BFL dk weight yarn, which is composed of 100% wool. This yarn offers approximately 225 meters (246 yards) per 100-gram skein, providing good yardage for a durable, warm sweater. The pattern calls for a three-color colorwork approach:
- C1 (Cement): 3 to 4 skeins depending on size, serving as the primary color
- C2 (Tobacco): 2 to 3 skeins depending on size, used as a secondary color
- C3 (Moana): 1 skein for all sizes, providing accent color details
The total yardage requirements scale with size, with smaller sizes requiring approximately 675 meters of C1 and 450 meters of C2, increasing proportionally for larger sizes. The pure wool fiber provides natural elasticity, breathability, and classic sweater durability.
Needles and Tools
The pattern requires three sets of needles in graduated sizes to accommodate different stitch densities:
- 3 mm (US 2½) circular needle: Used for picking up stitches, providing precision for this detailed work
- 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle and DPNs: Used for ribbing sections, creating the tight, elastic edgings
- 4 mm (US 6) circular needle and DPNs or longer circular needle for magic loop: Used for the main body and sleeves, allowing for comfortable working of larger circumferences
This needle progression is standard in sweater design, allowing knitters to achieve proper gauge while maintaining appropriate fabric characteristics in different sections of the garment.
