Kalinda Blanket by MyCrochetory
Project Overview
The Kalinda Blanket is an intermediate-level crochet blanket designed by Sylwia Kawczyńska of MyCrochetory. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a beautiful blanket using a round construction method that builds progressively with each successive round, starting from corner chain spaces and expanding outward for a sophisticated finished piece.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a crochet blanket constructed in the round. The blanket design features a geometric structure where each round builds upon the previous one, with special attention given to corner shaping. The pattern includes nested bracket instructions that allow for customizable sizing and complexity, making it adaptable to different finished dimensions.
Crochet Techniques Used
- Round construction: The blanket is worked in continuous rounds rather than traditional rows, creating a cohesive circular or square motif that expands outward
- Corner shaping: Specific stitch placement in corner chain spaces ensures proper blanket geometry and prevents curling or distortion
- Stitch marker placement: Markers are positioned in every chain-1 space at corners to maintain pattern consistency and help track progress through complex rounds
- Nested bracket instructions: The pattern uses {…} and […] notation to indicate sections that are repeated a specified number of times, allowing for flexible pattern expansion
Stitches Used
- Slip stitch (slst): Used for joining rounds and transitions
- Yarn over (yo): Foundation technique for creating loops and building stitch height
- Chain stitch (ch): Used extensively for spacing and corner construction, particularly chain-1 spaces (ch-1 sp)
Materials and Tools Required
Yarn: Scheepjes Whirl in the Indigo Plane (553) colorway is used in the sample blanket. This yarn is a 4-ply weight offering 1000 meters and 215 grams per cake, composed of 60% cotton and 40% acrylic blend, providing a durable and breathable fabric suitable for blankets.
Hook and Notions: A 3.5mm crochet hook is recommended, though adjustment may be necessary to achieve the correct gauge. Additional tools include a tapestry needle for weaving in and hiding yarn ends, scissors for cutting yarn, and 4 stitch markers for tracking pattern placement throughout the rounds.
Pattern Notes
Rows 5 and 6 of the pattern require special attention during construction. The blanket is worked on the backside during certain rounds, and stitch markers should be repositioned as indicated throughout the pattern to maintain accurate shaping. The pattern is designed for personal use only and is provided in downloadable PDF format.
