Product Description
Often times, when it comes to my designs, I have the design in mind first, and then I am forced to locate yarn that is suitable. This time I was lucky enough to have the yarn first, to be inspired second, and have the skill to meld the two into this multi-functional accessory.
Jules was inspired by the yarn—a gorgeous, hand-dyed yarn in one of my favorite colors by an indie-dyer friend, Julie, of 1,000 Petals. Jules...Julie...you get it, right? I know you do. A nod to the person responsible.
To be completely honest, I’m not sure if this design would exist without Julie’s gift. Maybe it would, but it wouldn’t be so gorgeous, showcased in that blue. Is that too biased? I’m putting my foot down right now and saying no.
“No.”
The images throughout the pattern show Jules in only two of the ways you can wear it—as a shoulder wrap, and as a scarf. Who is to say that you’re limited there? I say why not use the small size as a head-kerchief; the larger size as a
Jules - Tunisian Wrap and Scarf by Brianna Mewborn
What is Being Made
Jules is a versatile wrap and scarf design created by independent designer Brianna Mewborn. This crocheted accessory is available in multiple sizes to accommodate small, medium, large, and extra-large wearers, making it an adaptable project for various body types and styling preferences.
Craft and Primary Technique
This pattern is worked entirely in crochet, specifically utilizing Tunisian crochet methods. Tunisian crochet is a hybrid technique that combines elements of traditional crochet and knitting, creating a fabric with a distinctive appearance and structure. The technique involves working forward and return passes in each row, building loops on the hook before completing the row, which results in a dense, fabric-like texture that drapes beautifully for wraps and scarves.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The Jules pattern incorporates foundational Tunisian crochet stitches and techniques:
- Foundation Row: Begins with one complete forward and return pass. The forward pass (also called the base chain) involves inserting the hook into the spine loop of the second chain from the hook, yarning over and pulling through, leaving each loop on the hook until all chains have corresponding loops. The return pass then works off these loops by yarning over and pulling through one loop, followed by repeated yarn overs and pulling through two loops until the row is complete.
- Tunisian Cross Stitch (TCROSS): An intermediate-level stitch that skips the next stitch and inserts the hook behind the front vertical loop of the following stitch, creating a crossed texture and visual interest in the fabric.
Materials and Specifications
The Jules pattern requires specific materials to achieve the intended drape and finished appearance:
- Hook: 6.5mm (size K) Tunisian hook, which is specifically designed with a longer shaft to accommodate the multiple loops required in Tunisian crochet techniques.
- Yarn: Silk and Merino blend in fingering weight, a delicate and luxurious yarn combination that provides excellent drape for a wrap and scarf. Yardage requirements vary by size: 500 yards for small and medium sizes, and 750 yards for large and extra-large sizes.
- Notions: A yarn needle for weaving in ends and finishing the project.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic crochet techniques and are ready to explore the more complex forward and return pass structure of Tunisian crochet. The pattern assumes familiarity with fundamental crochet concepts while introducing the specialized techniques that define Tunisian work.

Jules is available as a downloadable PDF pattern, allowing crafters to access the complete instructions, stitch guides, and sizing information digitally for convenient reference during the project.
