So why not enhance it with a bit of crazy color-striping? Here you can see a color-combination for the dk-pattern version I called plumcake. But what about a black/white, grey/beige, neon/beige or gradient rainbow on your shoulders? :) A dk weight or {fingering weight}? Knit your favorite. You could even knit the dk-pattern version with fingering weight and get a much much smaller neck thingy. Have fun!
