*JASMINE* is a very dainty pattern for a blanket of shawl. I've used King Cole Baby Glitz with a delicate sparkle. 350gms of dk yarn is plenty on 5mm needles. This is not an overly challenging pattern and there are plenty of photos to help if needed. This listing is for the pattern and not the finished item and is ONLY available in PDF.
JASMINE Baby Blanket Knitting Pattern
What Is Being Made
The JASMINE is a baby shawl and blanket designed by Susan J Ward, measuring approximately 32x32 inches (82x82 centimeters). This downloadable knitting pattern creates a soft, delicate piece suitable for newborns and infants, combining both decorative and functional qualities for nursery use.
Construction Technique
This pattern employs a distinctive three-part construction method. The blanket begins with a centre piece that is knitted first, establishing the foundation of the design. Once the centre section is complete, each side is knitted separately by picking up stitches from the edges of the centre piece, one side at a time. This modular approach allows for controlled shaping and symmetry. The final step involves slip stitching the two sides together using the loops created at the beginning of every row, resulting in a seamless, professionally finished edge.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The JASMINE pattern incorporates several intermediate-level knitting techniques and stitches:
- Knit stitch (K) - the fundamental stitch forming the base of the fabric
- Purl stitch (P) - used to create textural variation and reverse stockinette sections
- Slip stitches (Sl) - stitches slipped as if to purl (Sl 1 P'wise) to create clean, decorative edges and selvage
- Yarn forward (YFD) - creates deliberate eyelet holes for an open, lacy appearance
- Yarn round needle (YRN) - another method for creating decorative yarn overs
- Knit three together through back loop (K3tog tbl) - a decrease stitch that creates visual interest and helps shape the blanket
- Pass slip stitch over (PSSO) - a traditional decrease technique
- Through back loop (TBL) - working into the back of stitches for twisted effects
- Slip stitch seaming - the finishing technique used to join the sides invisibly
Materials Required
The JASMINE baby blanket requires 350 grams of yarn, equivalent to 1015 metres or 1109 yards. The recommended yarn is King Cole Baby Glitz in double knit (DK) weight, chosen for its softness and suitability for delicate baby items. The pattern calls for one pair of 5mm knitting needles, which is the appropriate needle size for working with DK weight yarn to achieve the correct fabric density and drape.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate difficulty, the JASMINE pattern is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to progress beyond basic projects. The combination of slip stitch techniques, yarn overs, and multi-part construction requires attention to detail and understanding of shaping methods, making it an ideal project for developing advanced knitting competencies.

Would still prefer a proper pattern not a photocopied one but this seems to be they way they come now. I like my old fashioned patterns
