Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia Ray Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
What Is Being Made
This is a children's sweater designed using the intarsia knitting technique. The pattern features a charted design called "Ray Moniker" that is worked into the body of the garment. The sweater is constructed with a back, front, and sleeves, with multiple size options to accommodate different children's measurements.
Techniques Used
The primary construction method is intarsia knitting, which allows for detailed colorwork designs to be incorporated into the fabric. The sweater is worked primarily in stockinette stitch (st-st), which creates a smooth, flat fabric ideal for displaying the intarsia chart pattern. The pattern also incorporates 2x2 ribbing at the cuffs and hem for elasticity and a finished appearance. Shaping is achieved through strategic decreases at the armholes and other points to create proper garment fit. The pattern uses the thumb method for casting on stitches at the beginning of the project.
Stitches Used
- Stockinette Stitch (st-st): The main stitch throughout the body of the sweater, creating the smooth canvas for the intarsia design
- 2x2 Ribbing: A knit 2, purl 2 repeat used for the ribbed sections, providing stretch and structure
- Decreases: Including p2tog (purl 2 together) reductions to shape the armholes and achieve proper fit
Materials and Yarn Weight
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn, which is a lightweight yarn suitable for children's garments. The pattern specifies average yarn requirements based on achieving the correct tension with the recommended yarn weight. Needles used include 2¾mm needles for the initial cast-on and ribbed sections, and 3¼mm needles for the main body worked in stockinette stitch. The pattern provides multiple size options with varying stitch counts and row counts to accommodate different children's ages and sizes.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, reflecting the skills required to work intarsia colorwork while managing shaping and construction techniques. Knitters should be comfortable reading charts, managing multiple colors, and executing decreases for armhole shaping.
