Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia Christopher Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
What Is Being Made
This is a children's sweater pattern featuring an intarsia design incorporating a personalized Christopher moniker chart. The garment is constructed as a classic pullover with separate front and back pieces, designed to fit multiple sizes for growing children. The intarsia technique allows for the integration of a custom name or monogram directly into the knitted fabric using different colored yarns.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a knitting project classified at intermediate difficulty level. The pattern employs intarsia as its signature technique, which involves knitting with multiple colors of yarn to create a design that appears as part of the fabric itself rather than being embroidered or appliquéd afterward. Intarsia work requires careful yarn management and attention to color changes to achieve clean, professional-looking results.
Stitches and Construction Methods
The sweater is primarily constructed using stockinette stitch (st-st) throughout the main body, which creates a smooth, flat fabric ideal for displaying the intarsia moniker chart. The ribbed edging employs 2x2 rib (alternating knit 2, purl 2), which provides elasticity and a neat finish at the cuffs and hem.
The pattern includes the following structural elements:
- Cast-on using the thumb method with 70 stitches as a foundation
- Ribbed cuff worked over 7 rows in 2x2 rib pattern
- Main body in stockinette stitch with varying row counts depending on size
- Armhole shaping achieved through decreasing 1 stitch at each end of every row over multiple rows
- Intarsia chart integration worked into the front piece over 39 stitches
- Stitch holder techniques for holding stitches during construction
Materials: Yarn and Needles
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, which produces a lightweight, refined fabric suitable for children's garments. The pattern specifies needle sizes of 2¾mm for the main body work and 3¼mm needles for the ribbed sections. The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF format, allowing crafters to access the complete instructions and intarsia chart digitally.
Yarn amounts are calculated based on achieving the specified tension with the recommended yarn weight and needle sizes, ensuring proper fit and drape across the multiple size options included in the pattern.
