Product Description
Inspired by easter and Faberge eggs this design is a great chart to start intarsia. The stripes keep the design fun but there are no crossing colours. If you're nervous try knitting it with one colour then try the stripes. Combine with my butting pattern and keep your creations as fun easter decorations
Yarn colours required - MC: Yellow, CC1: Blue, CC2: Orange.
This is the chart only, uses this picture chart with any Instarsia interchangeable base patterns which are sold separately. Check out my Lovecrafts profile or INSTARSIA website
Instarsia - Egg of Diagonal Stripes Chart
Project Overview
The Egg of Diagonal Stripes is a knitting chart design created by EJHeywood through Instarsia. This downloadable PDF chart provides a pattern for knitting an egg-shaped motif featuring diagonal stripe detailing. The design is intended for knitters working with DK weight yarn and is classified as an intermediate-level project, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond basic techniques.
What Is Being Made
This chart is used to create a knitted egg form with a distinctive diagonal stripe pattern. The egg shape serves as a decorative motif that can be incorporated into various knitting projects. The design emphasizes geometric precision through its diagonal line work, creating visual interest and movement within the egg silhouette.
Instarsia Chart System
A key feature of Instarsia charts is their standardized sizing. All Instarsia patterns are designed to be exactly the same dimensions, allowing knitters to mix and match different chart designs within a single project. This modular approach provides creative flexibility, enabling crafters to combine the Egg of Diagonal Stripes chart with other available Instarsia patterns from the designer's collection at instarsia.co.uk.
Techniques and Stitches
This is a chart-based knitting pattern, meaning it uses a visual grid system to guide stitch placement and color changes. Knitters read the chart row by row to determine which stitches to work and in which colors. The diagonal stripe pattern requires attention to color placement and stitch accuracy to achieve the intended geometric effect. The intermediate difficulty level suggests the pattern involves color work coordination and possibly techniques such as intarsia or fair isle methods, depending on the knitter's preferred approach to multi-color knitting.
Materials
- Yarn Weight: DK (Double Knit) weight yarn is specified for this pattern, providing a medium thickness suitable for detailed colorwork
- Needles: Appropriate needles for DK weight yarn, typically in the US 5-7 range, though specific needle size recommendations appear in the full pattern instructions
- Format: This is a chart-only download, providing the visual pattern guide without accompanying written instructions
