Product Description
This little set makes the perfect gift for the spa lover in your life, or for yourself for a lovely spot of self-indulgence! The pattern uses cotton yarn for a lovely soft feel against the skin, and only takes a few hours to whip the entire set up.
I made this set using my cotton yarn stash; you will need less than 2 skeins of DK weight yarn, preferably cotton, as well as a 4mm hook and a needle for sewing in ends. I used white DK yarn and various shades of blue.
Included in this pdf is the pattern for the flannel/washcloth, soap holder, face scrubbies and bath/shower pouffe.
Indulgent Spa Set by Abigail Baines
What Is Being Made
The Indulgent Spa Set is a collection of spa-themed crochet items designed by Abigail Baines of MillwardMakes. This thoughtfully curated set makes an excellent gift for spa enthusiasts or as a personal indulgence project. The complete set can be finished in just a few hours, making it an efficient project for crafters seeking quick results with meaningful outcomes.
Craft and Primary Technique
This pattern is worked entirely in crochet, a versatile fiber craft that uses a single hook to create loops and interlocking stitches. Crochet is known for its flexibility, forgiving nature, and relatively quick project completion compared to knitting. The Indulgent Spa Set is classified as a beginner-level project, making it accessible to those new to crochet while remaining enjoyable for experienced crafters.
Crochet Stitches Used
The pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches that form the foundation of most crochet work. The stitches included are:
- Chain (Ch) – the foundational stitch used to create the base of projects and transition between rows
- Double Crochet (DC) – a versatile mid-height stitch that creates fabric with good structure and drape
- Single Crochet (SC) – the shortest and tightest basic stitch, often used for edges and dense fabric
- Treble Crochet (TC) – a taller stitch that creates more open, airy fabric
- Half Treble Crochet (HTC) – a stitch between double crochet and treble crochet in height
- Half Double Crochet (HDC) – a stitch between single crochet and double crochet, offering moderate height and density
- Slip Stitch (SS) – used primarily to join rounds or move yarn across stitches without adding height
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Indulgent Spa Set uses cotton yarn throughout, selected specifically for its soft, gentle feel against the skin—an ideal choice for spa-related items. The pattern calls for DK weight yarn as the primary yarn weight, which provides a balanced fabric weight suitable for items requiring both structure and drape.
Yarn quantities: Approximately 150 grams of colored DK weight yarn is needed for the main components of the set. An additional 20 grams of white aran weight cotton yarn (or white DK weight yarn worked double-stranded) and 20 grams of white DK weight yarn complete the material requirements. The designer notes using leftover Sirdar cotton yarn from their stash, demonstrating how this pattern accommodates stash-busting and color flexibility.
Tools required: A 4mm crochet hook is used throughout the pattern. Additional supplies include a needle for weaving in ends, scissors, and optional stitch markers to help track stitch placement and pattern progress.
Tension and Gauge
The tension gauge for the flannel component of this set is approximately 6 double crochet stitches to one inch. Understanding and working to the correct tension ensures that finished pieces maintain the intended dimensions and fabric characteristics, which is particularly important for spa items that benefit from specific sizing and drape.
