Helicopter Crochet Applique Pattern by Kerri's Crochet
What Is Being Made
This is a crochet helicopter applique pattern designed by Kerri's Crochet. The pattern provides instructions for creating a three-dimensional crochet helicopter that can be used as an applique or standalone decorative piece. The design is available in multiple sizes, allowing crafters to choose between large, medium, and small finished helicopters depending on their yarn weight and hook size preferences.
Project Overview and Sizing Options
The helicopter pattern accommodates three different sizing options to suit various yarn weights and skill levels:
- Large Helicopter: Measures 14.5cm x 12cm (5.5" x 4.75") when made with 8 ply yarn and a 3mm crochet hook
- Medium Helicopter: Measures 10cm x 8cm (4" x 3") when made with 4 ply crochet cotton and a 1.5mm crochet hook
- Small Helicopter: Made using 2 ply crochet cotton with proportionally smaller hook sizes for the most delicate finished piece
Crochet Techniques and Stitches Used
This intermediate-level crochet pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches and techniques to construct the helicopter components. The pattern employs the following stitches:
- Chain stitch (ch): The foundation stitch used to begin crochet work
- Slip stitch (sl st): Used to join rounds and create seamless transitions between sections
- Double crochet (dc): A basic stitch that provides structure and density to the helicopter body
- Half treble crochet (htr): A medium-height stitch that adds dimension to various components
- Treble crochet (tr): A taller stitch used for creating lighter, more open sections
- Double treble crochet (dtr): The tallest stitch in this pattern, used for specific design elements

The pattern calls for specific materials to achieve the intended design and finished appearance:
