Product Description
Abolitionist, nurse, soldier and spy for the Union Army, and human rights activist, Harriet Tubman became part of the suffrage movement in her later years, using her voice to fight for women’s equality and the right to vote. This pattern, as well as my pattern of Ida B Wells, has been created to honor those who have fought for human rights and voting rights.
All proceeds from pattern sales will be donated to charities that work toward a just society such as the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (US) and Stop Hate UK.
Gathering donations for charitable causes from the finished product, and charitable donations of the finished product is encouraged, BUT please do not copy, sell, share, alter, or republish this pattern, pattern photographs, templates, or sell products or variations created from this pattern without express permission.
Harriet Tubman Crochet Doll by Webb Crochet
Project Overview
This downloadable crochet pattern from independent designer Webb Crochet creates a finished doll approximately 6 inches tall and 2.75 inches wide, commemorating the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman (c. 1820-1913). The pattern is designed at an intermediate difficulty level, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex shaping and assembly techniques.
What Is Being Made
The pattern produces a three-dimensional amigurumi-style crochet doll representing Harriet Tubman, the renowned abolitionist, nurse, spy, activist, and suffragist. This finished doll can serve as an educational craft project, decorative piece, or collectible figure celebrating an important historical figure in American history.
Craft and Technique
Primary Craft: Crochet using DK weight (lightweight 3) yarn with a 2.50mm crochet hook. The pattern employs standard amigurumi construction techniques, which involve creating small, stuffed three-dimensional figures through circular crochet methods.
The doll is constructed using fundamental crochet stitches combined with shaping techniques. Intermediate-level skills required include working increases and decreases to form the rounded body shapes characteristic of amigurumi dolls, as well as assembling multiple crocheted pieces into a cohesive figure.
Stitches and Techniques Used
- Chain (ch): Foundation stitch for starting rows and creating connecting elements
- Single Crochet (sc): Primary stitch for building dense fabric in amigurumi construction
- Double Crochet (dc): Used for creating varied fabric textures and structure
- Decrease (dec): Single crochet two together to reduce stitch count and shape the doll
- Increase (dc inc): Double crochet increase, working 2 dc in the same stitch to add volume
- Back Loop Only (BLO/BL): Working through only the back loop to create textured edges and definition
- Front Loop Only (FLO/FL): Working through only the front loop for additional texture variation
Materials and Yarn Specifications

- Cream yarn: approximately 9.8 yards (9 meters), 0.13 ounces (3.6 grams) - accent color for details
- Black yarn: approximately 11 yards (10 meters), 0.14 ounces (4 grams) - for facial features or accents
